Hi Everyone, been way too long. I hope there are a few here that remember me!
I still have Solar, my '08 H3 with Adventure Package. She hasn't seen a trail in too long, but I still enjoy driving her, and she just turned 200,000 miles!
I recently noticed a large puddle under her in the parking garage where I live and took her to a local mechanic. He replaced the oil pressure gauge and changed the oil and said she was leaking oil in many places and just needed a new engine. Ahh, no, we need a second opinion!
Lesson learned: no matter how far away your regular mechanic is, always, always go back to him. So I did, and Rob says she just needs a new head gasket. There's a big difference between that and an engine!
When I'm driving, there is no white smoke or milky oil on the stick. She runs very smoothly and has no overheating issues. Those seem to be all the apparent signs that one needs a new head gasket. I have reached out to my mechanic and asked for specifics.
In the meantime, I wanted to see if anyone here has replaced their head gasket and how they knew they needed one?
I remember the 2007 H3 lease in which I blew the head gasket. The engine light came on, so I had it towed to the dealer, and it was replaced under warranty. Again, no symptoms.
Any info would be appreciated!
Thanks
