And all of this was with public input. Those in favor in the town probably think the clothing boutiques and CBD oil shops will keep their town alive, but forget it's the tourist money that funds Moab and its services.

Moab will dry up and blow away if too many trails get shutdown. The idiots don't seem to understand that tourism is the goose that lays their golden eggs. So glad I did not buy a place in Moab. I got real close about 3 years ago.

Not specific to Moab, but anytime I have ever been confronted by someone saying I was hurting the land, be that by offroading, hunting, or even hiking, I always make the argument that the fastest way to damage a piece of property is to get people to stop caring about it. When you stop allowing people to responsibly use it like this, no one will have any incentive to protect it. Lots of Jeep clubs do a ton for the land. I'd be curious to know how many tons of garbage they haul out out of natural areas around the country each year.

The downside is COVID multiplied the amount of off roaders, I see it here in SoCal desserts. The mess they leave behind is disgusting. Only a recent phenomenon, but politicians and lobbyist only need to sell the "now".

I read online somewhere that this closing was pushed by some activist group who didn't want to see vehicles from the water, or something like that, utterly asinine reason.

On another note, i do think the fad is drying up some, all of the covid offroaders and overlanders are backing off some, its too expensive or they cant find it with their youtube channel etc, atleast this is my hope.
