Best time of year for Moab?

So, outside of the the April and October Black Sheep weeks, when is the best time to go to Moab? Activities planned would be; wheeling :shifty:, hiking, camping, mountain biking, etc.. We would probably be in Moab or somewhere in Utah for 5 days.

I am hypothetically planning a trip with a couple of friends for next summer and want to know the best time to go. Does it get too hot in the middle of the summer? How cold is it in October at night?

I am no moab expert...I have only gone once but I must say anytime is good if your going to moab. For an even better time go with the blacksheep. If I didnt have the BS crew teaching me the ways I would be dead near the bottom of some cliff.

June thru sept. can be pretty hot 100*+ and lows of mid 80's -90

April and Oct. can see lows in the mid 40's and even mid to upper 30's with highs from 70-90

funny how it gets 10* warmer each month for the first 6 months of the year ... and drops about the same for the last 5 months

its also advisable to avoid the big events , town gets pretty crazy during easter jeep safari , jeep jamboree , skinny tire and fat tire festivals and the river road gets shut down during the marathons . there is an event happening most weekends but things like the arts festival and the music festival , rock art symposiums and big horn sheep photo hunts wont impact the trails as much as the other events do .

Short answer is that there are no bad times to be in Moab, only some that are better than others. You will have a great time regardless of when you go there.

I've been tryin' to get these guys to schedule the spring BS week to the beginning/middle of May for years. No luck yet.

May,September-October are the best months in Moab.

Seeing us requires you showing up in Moab. Maybe this October.....? Besides then you would get to see Speedy and Bebe's rigs.

I just got back from whitewater rafting the Snake river in Jackson Hole with my two sons. Hiking around in the Grand Tetons got me fired up and thinking about wheelin' again.

October is definitely out though... the wife has committed us to attending her parents 50th wedding anniversary in Denver that week. :sigh:

My sons just completed tryouts and they were excepted to join a U-16 tier travel hockey team, and a U-16 elite travel lacrosse team. All my vacation days are allocated following my kids around the country competing.

Between their travel teams and their high school teams, and all the practice, and their jobs, and school... my time away from work is mostly all shot. It will help when the youngest one gets his drivers license, he gets his permit next month, but then I have to buy him a truck. Add to that... for what his travel team fees are... I could pay cash for that truck.

I've rationalized to myself that this is a good life... however, I sure miss the days of partying my ass off in Moab with the Hummers, and Sturgis with the chopper.

When this time of my life is over... I'm gonna be an old fart.

Unlike Alex, I feel your pain Rugged.

I have women chasing me down the street with mattresses strapped to their backs.

It's actually quite embarrassing.

Jeff, I well remember those days. Travel ball, practices, pitching lessons, batting coaches, tournaments 3 weekends out of the month, traveling all over the country to play ball. It passes and you will miss it, for awhile and then you will be back to wheeling, fishing, etc...all the stuff you don't have time for.
