well guys it has been a sad day, my new baby deuce is done. my buddy and i went mudding with mine and his h2. was doing fine until i got stuck on something towards the middle of the pit, tried to grind it out and im sorry to say that the engine f**king crapped on me, she began to smoke and then studdered and shut off for good.

not sure exactly what happened at the moment, but all i know is the hearse, i mean tow truck driver told me she's done unless i put a new engine in her. more than likely, i wont deal with doing that, although predator is sounding like a nice option at the moment....

so if you guys have any input on what you think may have happened or what steps i should take please let me know, cause as of now i'm stuck riding a cbr in 40 degree weather in the mornings

Doesn't sound good. Hopefully just something electronic. Hard to diagnose from afar though. Have a shop check it out. Hopefully it isn't near as bad as you think.

I find it hard to believe its dead that easily. Have a qualified shop diagnose it, I'm sure its bad news, but it may not be as bad as you think.

well i just spoke with the mechanics who took over the truck and they said that the connecting rod broke and ended up punching a hole in the engine block. he told me that it wasn't due to me mudding, it was just the engine getting old even though it only has 16X,XXX? anyway he said that i could put a new engine in it and that's about my only option

I don't know if this sounds sketchy or not....

You can always get it towed to a dealership or another mechanic to double check.

Well that sucks. 160K is nothing for that motor. I am hard as hell on my truck and I'm pushing 190k and still running strong. I would keep the truck and definitely price dropping in the dirty max.

Rod punching a hole in the engine block is really easy to see. Should be really easy for him to point it out with a flashlight; hole or crack surrounded with oil seepage.

i asked him if i could come take a look later this week and he said it's not something i would really be able to see.... maybe i should take it somewhere else

Should be some evidence they used to diagnose it. Bits of rod/block in the oil pan, oil/coolant seepage, the hole, etc. It's possible it did just crack something internally, but then they would have had to drop the oil pan to see it. If they can't explain how they figured it out, I'd be a little suspicious. Could be they were just lazy explaining it and assumed they were talking to a layman.

Just echoing what others have said already: If it punched a hole in the block then I'd think it would be pretty easy to see. Definitely check junk yards and dealerships for used motors.

There would be a window in the block. Easily seen if it was a rod through the block.

had it towed to a mom and pop mechanic today, man working on my truck said the same exact thing and that im more than welcome to take a look so i did. most of the things that you guys said i should be able to see were clearly present.

he mentioned that this could be due to poor care of the engine from the previous owner. the mechanic said that he's been looking for a hummer for a while and if mine was priced right hed take it....

i really don't feel like dealing with this headache should i sell, and if so what price is fair?

I'd say the price of a new motor minus the KBB value. Just something simple like that.

Rebuilt core? Under $2k. Crate? $4k+. What gets you is the replacement labor to swap the engines and transfer all of the accessories/sensors/wiring.
