H3 broken hood latch

anybody ever break the cable on their hood latch. my cable was stuck or something and I must have used a little too much power trying to open the hood. it felt like it broke right under the dash but since its sheathed theres no way of knowing.
how hard will it be to get my hood open and once I do, can I just buy a new cable for it.

anybody else ever deal with a broken hood cable

You can buy a new cable for it. Here is what it looks like.

Looks like the cable goes for around $20 bucks. Getting your hood open will more of the challenge. See if you can get to the lock through the grill and mechically open it. Someone may have more info for you on this.

It's a PITA I haven't messed with a broke one a 3 yet but I have on other trucks.

If it broke right at the handle your in luck just cut back the sheath (not easy but do able) vice grip the cable and yank. If not, Not sure here since I don't have my 3 here, but if you can see the cable through the grill vice grip the whole thingand yank sometimes the plastic clip will break and allow you to do it that way. I you can't get to it like that you going to have to pull drivers side inner fender and work with it under there.

I read somewhere that I should be able to reach through the grill and open it with some work.

Yep. I broke mine earlier this year. It is hard on the fingers but you can manually open through the grill.

When you go to replace it, remember to tie on some nylon cord or thin rope to the end of the cable before pulling it through. This will make it much easier to pull the new one back in.

Or just tape the old to the new with a good amount of electrical tape before you pull it through....

Got the cable ordered but I think I'll wait till it gets here to open the hoodthanks for the link. That was the cheapest I could find and there were none local

Well ended up being a lot easier to fix than I thought it would be. I finally had a chance to fix it tonight. Been reaching through the grill to open it up. Thanks for the help guys
