I was under the hood the other day and saw an electrical cord hanging in the front of the engine. It looks like the end of an extension cord. Has a cap on the end to protect the contacts.
I'm thinking this is a engine heater cord. Not sure where it goes to. If this is a heater for the engine, does it heat the oil and when should I plug it in? Should I ever plug it in?

tru 'dat. Usually there is enough length to zip tie it in the ctis area so it is accessible though the cut out on the rear drivers side of the hood

OK. Makes sense. The cord end is hanging in the front near the bumper. He must have tie wrapped it there. I'll have to re-route it.
At what temp would you think you would plug it in? How long... Over night?
Thanks All! I'll figure this beast out yet!

I just put mine near the ctis -- if it is outta the way where you have yours just leave it. There is no right or wrong place as long as it's safe and convenient for you.

as far as when to use it...I heard it's a good idea to use it below 20. Don't know for sure though.

I told the neighbor yesterday that the plug was for my electric powered Hummer!
I need to move the plug to a location thats easy to get to. Now I need to crawl under the front.
Thanks for the info guys!

Hey Joe, just leave that plug in an accessible location so the next time some dame in a Prius starts shaking her head at the gas station you can just pull it out and show her how green you are.

On the other hand, I DO NOT recommend pulling out your cord to ANY woman while at a gas station! :whaa:

Hey Twinmill28, not a bad idea! The problem is, my cord is too short! :shame:
