H2 4WD switch issues

Has anyone had any issues when they press the button and try to switch to 4H or 4L? I press it, and it takes a few minutes to switch down to the next gear. Sometimes it even seems to stay stuck and I have to turn the truck off and back on, and then seems to reset back to normal....but I'm not even sure if it's working when I do switch it! A mechanic buddy of mine said that it could be the little motor that is installed by the transfer case, that sometimes just starts going bad or wears out... Any suggestions? Because the replacement "little motor" is around $400, plus whatever he might charge me to install it. Any advise would be greatly appreciated! Btw, I just repaired/replaced my sunroof mechanical track, but that's another long story! lol

Make sure your buttons are not sticking, which is a relatively common problem for H3s. That's actually the reason that F5 has a spare 4x4 control switch assy (for an H3) for sale as he was working through a similar issue. I don't know if H2s have the same issue

Do you get a service 4wd on the cluster when this happens? Mine does this and needs the encoder motor.

:giggle: Fixed!!! :giggle:

Never researched it, but would assume if a person did only mudding, the problem might not exist on the H3 switches. However, that dust in the desert was sure a pain.

Zach, yes sometimes that does come up on my dashboard. What is the encoder motor? Is it the motor that switches from auto to high and low on the 4wd switch?

More than likely you have the same issue as me. Have somewhere scan it. It should have the code stored.
