There was a guy from Australia running a Turbonetics Turbo. Not sure if he still has the truck or what but I know he had lots of problems with the Turbo. I don't think there is a kit made for the I5 but I could be wrong too.

What are you planning to do with the truck? I'd much rather run a supercharger for offroad use - it makes consistent, linear power vs. the sudden power rush of a turbo.

its for off road use. but as i found out the supercharger doesn't come as a full kit and i don't want to risk it. isn't there more power from the turbo than the supercharger?

The I5 turbo (Turbonetics) was an absolute nightmare for one of our former members.

After countless thousands of dollars, he pulled the thing off and threw it in the corner of his shed, where it still resides to this day.

He ended up with a Super Charger that he was fairly pleased with........but not before an Aussie speed shop tweaked and fab'ed all manner of stuff to make it run right.

I believe his final verdict was, if you need that much more power.......buy a damn V8.

It is much cheaper in the long run.

imo adding forced induction (turbos more than superchargers) to a motor that wasnt orriginally built for it leads to nothing but empty bank accounts and poor running vehicles haha. i would say save your money and find a H3 with a v8, good luck with the decision

Personally I would never add either one to the I-5 engine. Just asking for problems and if under warrany, you won't have a powertrain warranty the next day. Like erdlen says, get a V8!

I'm a fan of turbos since they run off of waste energy in the exhaust. If they're tuned properly they can have smooth power delivery. I had a V-6 Camaro with a T04B turbo on it years ago, and it spooled so fast and smooth that it simply felt like the engine had grown 3 more cylinders. The old Buick Grand Nationals were much the same way.

Still, I would do a 6.0 V-8 swap before I messed with putting a turbo or SC on the I-5. It would be different if the 5 got better fuel economy than the V8's do, but from what I have heard that doesnt seem to be the case...

Supercharger has a better power curve for off roading the turbo tends to hit more aggressive in a petrol The guy in question sold his hummer and now drives a land roverBut as gunner said buy a v8

IMHO it is not so much a question of SC vs TC with the I5. It is IMHO more about the lack of a quality fit, properly executed, and service backed installation package. Every attempt I have seen has been similar to the turbonetics BS 1/2 azzed effort.

I'm not dissin Skippy's observation, I havent looked at either of those. I'm just saying use caution and go heavy on due diligence before burning coin of the realm.

Not yet.......... Maybe today.

If you liked that H3, you would love the new defender he has.

Still, it aint a HUMMER and I bring that fact up to him every chance I get..........

I would like to learn more about supercharging the I5. There are some specific reasons I would consider that upgrade if it were proven dependable and reliable.

I always thought it would be cool to supercharge one of these i5's but I would want to have the motor worked over a bit before hand and honestly, I don't know if I would want to have 35's on after the upgrade.
