H3 Loud POPPING

Hello all, I experience a loud popping sound ( 2-3 pops) only when I press the gas pedal hard from a complete stop. I just got my vehicle back from a dealer where they determined it was the front differential. So they replaced the front carrier ring and pinion and all necessary bearings and gaskets to overhaul the front differential assembly. They also replaced front axle shafts and driver front hub assembly. If anyone can chime in on what it could be I would greatly appreciate it. I think its the transfer case chain? And according to the tech my crossmember bushing is in good shape.

Body to frame bushings are squished and allowing the body to make a clunk or pop sound when the frame twists. Does it do it more if throttling through a tight turn or over uneven ground like a driveway apron? Run a search on the forum on how to fix or diagnose this issue. I fixed mine once and it is starting to do it again. The bushings closest to the wheel wells are the first to go, and it was the one behind the passenger front wheel that went first making me think it was the diff being on the right side. Good luck and let me know if this is it!

[STRIKE]Inspect the front diff support bushing before doing any deeper mechanical work.[/STRIKE] Oops. I read right past the your last sentence. I agree w/4speedfunk; the snubber is the likely culprit and his mod beefs up the weak OEM design. BTW, what's that dealer say about charging you for all that work and not fixing the problem? I guess mechanics don't know how to find a noise source anymore.

Could be the snubber has come loose inside the t-case. I have found this to be quite common and I posted a fix for it awhile back.

Don't forget to check the condition of the CV boot on the front prop shaft. It causes noises that can sound like a xfer case popping.

This is a long shot 8 years later, but can you let me know what this ended up being? I have a 2009 H3 and I'm having the EXACT same problem with it.

Longshot? Saw that movie last night. Has Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron. Enjoyable, but so is just about anything with Charlize Theron.

Man I had this feeling something was dragging me down ,when I pulled over the cv joint was smokin hot,I mean almost turning red.
Had it towed home and now when I drove around the block the dragging feeling gone but I have a clicking underneath.
I hope it’s the joint and not another differential or tc. Freakin money pit but drives so good when it’s right
