H3T H3T, Considerations when picking tire size for an H3T

What considerations need to be made when trying to go up to 35 and 37 inch tires?
Back spacing, spacer choice, lift, etc.

Will 37s work on stock suspension?

Thanks

Depends on what you mean by work?

With a body lift they should fit with minimal trimming in the wheel wells. But unless you have the V8 there will be a noticeable impact on performance

If you wheel it there will be more stress on an already stressed front end...

Yeah, I'd start with engine size. 35s on an I5 are already slowing down the vehicle but tends to be acceptable. 37s would be a stretch, in my opinion.

I will hopefully be making it out to Montana to pick up my first Hummer H3T this coming Friday. It is an Alpha/Offroad, has 20s w/34ish tires as well as a spare set of 17s w/ 32s. I will be getting some MT tires put on the 17s and was hoping i could get some 37s for wheeling.

So lets say that it will be a v8/off-road pkg platform. 1" body lift, minor trimming. Would you put 37s on or just max out at 35s? I was looking for max clearance on the trail, but I don't want to be replacing ball joints and cv joints all the time. will the 37s stress the front end out considerably more than 35s?

Thanks,
Grant

I wouldn't put 37's on an H3 unless it was just a trail rig. Too much wear and tear on the front end, too much stress on a weak front diff, drastically reduced braking, etc.

Why do a body lift if you are only putting on 35’s, and why 37’s if your keeping a stock front end...

Just gotta be careful and as others have said better than I, you drive the H3’s different than a solid axle.

I have 37's on my H3T ame always have the thought in the back of my mind that the diff could blow at any time... not to mention how often I rebuild the front end

Not worth it, stick with 35's if you want to enjoy it with a clear conscious

What cv joints are you using? My cv on one side are toast and i only have 15K on them! I guess too much power!

Im going for 37" bfg Ko2 soon. They are only 35.6" mounted making them a large 35 but tgey weight 67 lbs which is really light (even compared to 35s)

I tried several different CV's and the only ones that would last are OEM

I am running 37" KO2's and mounted on my 9" wide rim they measure out to 35.5"

Yeah my current 35" cooper at3s were 33.5" mounted so i guess its a habit to over hype the size of a tire!

Its crazy the difference between brands. Super swamper is the worst for their radial tires being undersized. The 37" bfg km2s we just bought are over an inch taller than the 37 irok NDs we have on our other H3. I guess we are a different scenario but we probably wont be putting anything smaller than a "37" on our H3s even my 4 daily drivers.
