Dad to an 06 H3, joined to find out a best install of a backup camera.

Welcome to H4O. Installing a backup camera is pretty easy, particularly if you are changing out the radio head unit. It's just running a cable from the head unit to the back. One way is under the door sills, under the cargo area plastic on the side and then pick a route out the pack like one of the grommets.

Thank you alrock, do you have a recommendation for head end and camera?

It's all based on budget. Check out crutchfield.com to see what head unit fits in your H3 and has the features you want. The cameras are all pretty basic - not much to compare there. The floating screen ones are nice but don't go too big. It's tempting but then you end up blocking out controls. I think I had an 8" screen. Rascole had larger, maybe 10", and regrets buying that size. I could be off on those numbers though I know it's somewhere here on the forum

If you never go off road, the 10" looks awesome, but I regret it. Covers the transfer case selector buttons or the HVAC dials depending how it is adjusted. Crutchfield is your best bet for comparing but any name brand stereo will be a huge improvement over stock.
