So, I recently bought a townhouse in Lomita, CA and hired professional movers to handle all the furniture. All the living quarters and master bedroom are upstairs, which means most of the furniture will need to come up. My staircase is pretty tight.

The movers improvised and sent all the items over the railing of my patio.

What is more impressive is how they got the refrigerator up there!

When we moved, we went from a 900 sq ft apartment to a 5200 sq ft house. We had to buy a crap load of furniture to furnish it and they offered a flat $50 delivery fee which included bringing it inside. It was well worth $50 for them to carry two sofas to the third floor up a spiral stairway. Just recently bought a piano as well, and the movers said they recently took a piano up a spiral stairway. That would have been insane to watch.

When I worked for Circuit City, I took a 65" Sony projection with full oak up a spiral staircase. The hard part is lining it up on the rail. We let it slide all the way up.

We are not planning on moving for a long time so hopefully we can relax for a while. We made two more trips with the Hummer and Soul filled. Now all we have is the cleanup of the old apartment and we will be done!

clever.

I used to work for my dad and he builds commercial-kitchen equipment. Most generally vapor-recovery hoods and dishtables.

There's a restaurant in Tualitin that is narrow, long restaurant. Because it was a chinese-style, they needed an 28' long hood. The space was a long rectangle and it was a 90 degree corner to get the hood inside. Not a chance, we bend stainless, but once bent it rarely bounces back.

However, the restaurant was on the second floor and it had a window at the end of the kitchen that was 36x52. The hood was 30x50 by 28 feet long. By myself I had to get it into the restaurant. At the time I had a lifted chevy pickup like my old black one, this one was 6" lift on 38s and I had a ladder rack for it. However, 28' is way too long to haul without getting stopped by the police for overlength. Fortunately I had a car trailer, so I loaded the hood on the ladder rack then towed the trailer under it to be legal. It worked out so well dropped the trailer at the job site, and backed up to the window. I had to lift the end of the hood up 2" to slide it into the window.... call it 900 lbs and it slid in like I planned it :)

The owner of the restaurant was certain I was going to have to cut his wall to get it in... nope. He literally was dancing a happy dance when he came in and saw the hood on the wall...

thanks for the reminder :) and nice work on the 2 story work...

Just finished a weeklong safety class at work, our safety rep was strung tight enough telling all his stories, I could imagine him losing his mind with that ladder hanging out of the truck.
I work for the Navy and we're trying to break the trend of our contractors killing themselves on the job site misusing their tools, like an improperly placed ladder and then say an entertainment centers lands on the guy when he slips and falls---it happens way too often.
