Hummer EV Fail

I have been a fan of this channel for a long time. They don’t seem biased, they do factual tests, and will list pros and cons for what they are. I get that there will be a learning curve with EV….but that is not the job of the consumer to be a test mule. It seems like the auto makers are pushing the EVs out when it isn’t ready.

With that said, being stuck in park isn’t a new thing, gas powered dodge rams had that issue too. There needs to be fail sails around this in the hummer EV. Anyways, 115k for this is unacceptable.

I will probably stick with the frankenhummer and old F550. Minimal electronics compared to todays vehicles. Do I sound like an old man now? LOL, I’m not against technology, I’m all for it and understand growing pains aren’t 100% avoidable but these growing pains just seem unnecessary due to lack of testing.

I am not on the EV band wagon and won't be for the for seeable future. I just saw a video for a potential EV tractor. I will never give up my diesel tractor therapy sessions.

Their tests have always been real world experiences.

Did you see their video on how long it takes to get a full charge on 110? 4 DAYS! lol! My pockets aren't deep enough to justify buying one in the first place, let alone to upgrade infrastructure to my house for a realistic charge time. Still an amazing machine and cool to finally see them driving around. I'd go Rivian R1S if I had to go electric.

Clickbait, that one guy in particular on TFL has always dumped on Hummers no matter what what generation so this doesn't surprise me.. [aka why would anyone buy a h1/2/3 when they can buy a chevy was one quote he had]

This happened before [another owner on another forum] when the dealership didn't charge the 12v system before delivery, there are 2 electrical systems involved. It's not restricted to the Hummer it has happened on other EV's. They'll charge up the high voltage motive drive system and forget about the 12v accessories system.

Re: 110v, no one buying an EV is going to be charging on standard power unless they have no other choice. 240v is probably going to be the most common. Folks will have to check to ensure they can meet the electrical load before buying but after seeing folks buy EV's without having the ability to charge at home.. well.. they are braver than I am.

Matt’s off-road recovery is a perfect example of clickbait. “I almost died!!!” Watch the video and he told a 2 minute story of how he thought was going to die in some situation that happened years ago. It wasn’t anything involving the actual video. That is clickbait garbage. Everything in that caption happened in the TFL video.

They have also harped on other EVs. They had a terrible experience with a towing range of roughly 87 miles with the Ford Lightning.

They also have talked about benefits of EV so I don’t think they are EV haters, they are just calling it for what it is.

Lastly, for 100k I would have zero patience for problems, if your a consumer dropping 100k on a truck you shouldn’t care that there are 2 separate 12v systems and it wasn’t charged. If I’m buying an 100k truck I expect it to work when I need it to work.

If you think spending more money gets you less problems then I hate to be the one to let you know that is not how vehicles (or anything for that matter) works... Ive been fortunate to have several expensive vehicles in my life and I never once expected them to be more reliable because I spent "X" on them. The driving experience is what I was going for. "Dropping" $100k on a truck isnt some wild thing of the stars anymore. Many of the trucks we share the road with are $85,000 + and have a shit load of problems and they have "proven" gas or diesel engines. I remember the first time I had passlock trap me from starting my H3 years ago when it had 26,000 miles and I was made fun of for having a "fancy" hummer that wouldnt start because of a glitch....

I am not saying that a 100K vehicle should have no problems, especially a new 100K model but for six figures plus I do expect higher quality which should translate into fewer issues. The C8 Corvette had a few issues but for a radically different new platform I think GM did an admirable job of producing an amazing car with few issues. It can be done.

More money, less problems would be true for a second, third or fourth generation vehicle, but as an early adopter of a new platform you can't be naive to the fact that there will be issues. I have the Rivian R1T and as an early adopter, especially an new EV, I am prepared and expect that there will be some 1st generation problems. That's not to say manufacturers deserve any slack for having issues, but "buyer beware" on any first generation platform. Now if the manufacturer fails to correct these first generation problems effectively, then that is a different issue all together.
