Hey Doug, I don't understand that. I've seen someone else say the same thing---what's the difference in HX vx. H4?
I bought the sales propaganda off of E-Bay for the HX, they sure made it look like they were going to bring it to market. It was in a nice zippered cloth binder with some cool brochures and a CD covering the design.
I haven't seen anything like that for an H4--or any propaganda for an H4?
The Hx was a concept vehicle that was taken to car shows throughout the USA (and maybe overseas too). The H4 was the version being worked on that was cancelled at the same time that the H2 revision was cancelled (believe spring 2007 or maybe 2008 been a while).
The H4 was in a very early stage of life. The final design was no where near approved. The engine/trans/gearing was pretty much finalized, but that was easy since they were going to use existing engine/trans/gearing that was off-the-shelf.
One of the problems was this was a totally NEW platform. The H3 came off the Colorado platform (yes they are different, but the platform was there), the H2 came off the Tahoe platform (yes they are different but the 2 was based on that platform. When you base something off an existing platform you now have something to build off of and a place to build it at.
The last I had heard, the H4 still had no plant designation, but Mexico had two plants that were serious contenders.
Being in early stages of design means it was about 2 months old in a 9 month pregnancy. :whaa:
Not only did they need to finalize the actual body design, but they had extensive testing to preform prior to even thinking about a release. Don't forget crash testing, EMI testing, and a whole bunch of other testing and hopefully, some off-road testing.
Then you have validation of the components for service and warranty (something would have been involved in, if there was a H4). We usually received the vehicles a good two years before actual release.
So, if the actual H4 that GM was designing came back, that would basically mean they have been working on it for the last few years. I find this very hard to believe for a few reasons.
1. The are not called government motors for fun, I cannot believe the government would allow them to do it.
2. Where did they get the money?
3. Did they sell it to another company? I believe this would have been on the news if they had.
4. I still keep in touch with some people at GM. a few service engineers in chassis, who would know about this project if there was one. (One is the head of chassis service engineering for GM; he would have to know.) I have not actually asked these engineers if there was a H4 in development, but I would have thought they would have mentioned it if there was one in progress. I also keep in touch with a few warranty people, and one GM attorney (just for kicks). No one has ever said anything about the H4.
I guess a third party could produce one, but I would have guessed the names H4 and Hx would have been trademarked by GM. But who knows.
If one is ever released, I will be the first to say, "holy ****." However, I would not purchase one, since I refuse to purchase anything made by GM; regardless of my discount!
