H3 I CANNOT Tow apparently

Maybe I missed it, but what trailer are you towing? Manufacturer's trailer specs are notoriously low; actual weight is typically much higher than the listed dry weights, and you'd be surprised at how fast your camping/food/utinsels/bedding/clothing/etc adds up. Throw in alot of accessories on your H3, heavy 35" tires (unspring weight AND gearing), lousy aerodynamics (of both truck and trailer), and high altitude, and it's not surprising that you're struggling under the load.

It was a 16ft single axle, wolfpup. Rated at 3100lbs dry.

Are 35s really that bad. Seems crazy.

I truly appreciate your feedback. I didn't imagine my setup was that bad with the V8. I more so imagined the other GM setups and picked the lightest travel trailer I could find.

My first h3 was an i5 with a solid axle swap, spring over rear and 37s. I could pull a 1200lb popup with a mastiff and Dane easier than this. Full size spare, roof rack and all. Just strange is all.

Your pop-up was 1/3 (or even 1/4) the weight, AND was aerodynamic. Like not towing anything at all. Your current trailer (I think you might be surprised at it's actual weight; likely pushing 4,000lbs) sticks up into the air.

that all makes sense. Just not to my brain lol my i5 on monster tires shouldn't be more capable hahaha and I also won't pretend to be a towing/camping expert. I've only ever towed with my supercharged titan with airbags, active suspension, level 10 transmission, cams, etc. That truck is a monster. I do know now, that I won't tow with my Alpha and sadly that's one reason I got it lol oh well. Just need to remember to use the right vehicle for the job.

I can tow no problem with my Alpha. With 4.56 gears (I regeared after I blew my rear diff apart on Metalmasher) and 35's my overall ratio is roughly the same as the stock 4.10's with 33's. Yes, smaller tire is going to help with towing if you don't regear.

I tow a single axle M101A trailer loaded up with camping gear up grades no problem (down grades is another story, I really need to get the brakes installed on that trailer). I also have a 6K car hauler that I have towed a 2500lb tractor and a 3900lb Dodge Charger no problem either, though once you're up towards the 6K tow limit you definitely feel it back there. The Alpha can take it though.

I'm guessing my trans was dying and my failed tow was the last straw. Trans temp 238 with no sign of stopping. Destroyed 3-4 clutches. I'm afraid to try towing again lol
