Not only that .....it was dismissed because the article is from a marketing firm with connections to GM, and not a scientific body. So people taking a closer look at the report dismissed it out of hand.

Even so it brings up the good point you have to look at the total amount of pollution generated for a product from resource collection, shipping, processing and manufacture all the way to disposal, and not just the stuff coming out of the tailpipe.

That being said, was riding with a AAA wrecker last night after my H1 got a seized pulley coming back from Gorman, and his two biggest problem cars for the I5 stretch from Valencia to Gorman [hills] was Ford truck fuel pumps going out and Prius problems [shutdown/electronics issues] The prius ones suck because if it locks up the right way it locks up the drive train, can't switch those to neutral.

He guesses most prius owners think the cars run on unicorn farts and pixie dust and skip on maintenance.
