Preferred Chassis Fabrication recently repowered a customers M998 with a Cummins R2.8. The 6.2 had a ventilated block. This Repower conversion allowed the body, body mounting and drivetrain to remain stock with only minor modification to the transmission, transfer-case and driveline placement.
Performance is impressive and interior noise and vibration is severely reduced. And you can carry on a conversation while driving. A major benefit is that it is getting 20.8 mpg.

I assume you kept the 4L80e. Man this would be a great candidate to upgrade to a 6L80e. You would be surprised how much better it would take advantage of the power band of the cummins. Would take a little bit of electronics to work out but I think the driveline would be very close to the same overall length.

Nice looking work!

Original TH400 was retained as the 4L80 was behind the 6.5.
Thanks.

Very cool! This is a great upgrade. Ready to put one in my H3? Well, you probably are but I'm not sure I am. Maybe down the road a bit, plus I can't get away with that in Maricopa County

Cool project, I saw a couple of these first hand on UA when they first got released. I think these would be a great fit for an H3. Lighter and quieter than the older diesels. A 6 or 8 speed would be perfect behind it.

You would have to double check. Surprisingly they are approved for a swap in CA if it's a 99 or older.

The application statement from Cummins “the R2.8 generally is suitable for Model Year 1999 or earlier light duty trucks and Model Year 1993 or earlier passenger cars.” But is currently not CARB certified.
