Hello,

Before my first time towing with the Alpha next month, I want to get a gauge that shows engine/trans temp and other parameters. I've had an ultra gauge before but does anyone have other options they prefer? amazon seems to have lots of large hd screen ones for around 100 bucks but I'm unsure they'll be nice...

Try ScanGuage. I have the ScanGuage2 and it’s pretty cool. For some reason you can’t get or see oil pressure? I wish you could. But I can see water temp, trans temp, voltage, Lots of fuel milage monitoring options.

X2 on the scanguage II. I currently monitor engine temp, transmission temp, alternator voltage and mpg. With the alphas you can program oil pressure and oil temp as well.

Have had it for years, and has saved me a couple times where there was no other indication of a problem besides temps/voltage on the gauge being outside of normal.

you can see oil pressure after it is programmed in, but only on the alphas

Here are the command codes:

Sweet! Thanks! I have an Alpha. I’ll have to walk through the commands to see if I can get oil pressure to show up. That’s the one gauge I’m still shocked was not standard on the Hummer dash.

Per the oil pressure: All you're going to get is 'Ok' or 'Not Ok'. The I-5 oil pressure is a simple on/off pre-set "switch", so there's no pressure to 'get'. It's either good, or not good. I'm not sure what spec the switch is set to, but it's pretty low ...pretty sure it's right around 7 or 8 psi (??). The engine in my rig has low oil pressure and I've measured it down below that -- hot idle/foot on brake. Mine's been like that for years. Off idle it goes up to 24-29. So ...bearings are probably bad.

You could put a "T" in the oil pressure line and hook up a dedicated gauge inside your cabin if you wanted. (Use a copper line though). IDK if it's worth it though. If a person's oil pressure is low enough that the oil light is going on and it's *not* a faulty switch, it's time to start thinking about 'next steps' with your engine. Which is what I'm doing with mine.

There are a variety of analog more 'hardwired' options to consider too which may or may not interest you. I just cherry-picked these below ...there are a variety of others which may not include fuel level, and may have other measurements ...and don't have chinese writing, you can search out if you found something you wanted.

I use a cheap (around $15) OBD module and the Torque Pro app; it has additional GM parameters that you can download for alot of different info, including trans temp, oil temp, coolant temp, oil pressure, etc., along with the normal IAT, short and long term fuel trims, cat temps, load, fuel flow, etc etc etc.

Alpha has an oil pressure sensor, not a switch so you can get oil pressure. It's at the head. I personally use an Ultragauge since it's cheaper than a Scangauge and lets you view a lot more at once (up to 8 readouts at a time, with multiple pages that auto-cycle)

I'm monitoring oil pressure, oil temp (calculated, but close enough to not justify buying an actually oil temp sensor/gauge), voltage, trans temp (took some fiddling), cat temps, fuel economy/distance to empty, knock retard, and a handful of other data points I can't recall offhand right now.
