Parts Interchangeability

I notice on most sites that parts for the H2 are for 2003-2006. Is there any reason why those parts will not fit on 2007+?

What about interchangeability between 2500HD and the H2? I notice that the axle boots for a 2007 2500HD allegedly fit 2003-2005 H2's... why not the 2006+?

Yeah, oddly enough, 07 is the bastard year for some parts listings as 08-and 09 trucks have alot of their own parts given they have different engine/trans.
I haven't run across any parts yet that were different for my 07.

Ah yes, true enough. I never considered the engine / trans - figured the axles would have been the same.

So if I get 2500HD driveline parts for a 6.0L truck, they should fit the H2? Likewise, if I get 2003 - 2006 H2 parts they should fit my 2007 (e.g. RCV axles).

From my understanding---yes.

I've seen a post somewhere on the forums talking about using 2500 half shafts on the H2 as it references the same part number, but in some parts stores, half shafts listed in the computer for an H2 cost more money. The post said to cross reference both part numbers, they would be the same.

I have seen that with multiple parts - I call it the HUMMER tax. According to rockauto.com the half shaft of a 2500HD is the same as an H2. Cost on rockauto for H2 is $44 up to $86 depending on who makes it. Dealer price for H2 OEM shaft is $1,486.00 before taxes. I had them check the 2500HD shaft as well, happens to be exactly the same cost at the dealer.

They are out of their ****ing minds - I could get RCVs for less money.

The half shafts from 03-09 are the same. Expensive as hell! Retail on them is around $850. I recently sent my two new ones down under. I went with A-1 cardone selects which are new for $56. Personally, I would not go with the RCV's. The next weak link would be the front diff. I would rather break a half shaft and replace it on the trail. I carry two. A front diff is another story

Now that I know how cheap I can get half shafts I agree - I'd much rather keep putting half shafts into it than ripping the diff apart!

That's been my take on this as well, especially if your running with a front locker engaged. The only time I've broken a half shaft was on the trail (in Moab) climbing an obstacle with my front locker engaged... broke the passenger side half shaft. Strangely almost all the stories I've heard from others who have broken a half shaft it always seems to be the passenger side that breaks.

The only two halfshafts on H2's I've seen broken were both with front locker engaged and right side. And they both were on the same trail but different trips

So we could be better off if we ran with just one RCV half shaft on the right side, the left half shaft would still act as a "fuse" (i.e. higher amperage!:)) but would still hopefully break before the front diff would grenade? HA!
