PR or VT Series TireGate for the H3T

I've been working with the chief designer at TireGate to see about the possibility of getting one of these TireGate's to fit on the 3T without having to start from scratch (and increase cost considerably).

So far, here's what I've been able to confirm with TireGate:

1) the PR Series TireGate for full size trucks (2 inch tube that holds up to a 40 inch tire, 150 lb Maximum weight) is almost 60" wide and the T's tailgate opening width is 54" - so that one will not work for the T.

2) the PR Seies TireGate for Tacos (for small trucks, 1 3/4" tube that holds up to a 35" tire, 150 lb Maximum weight) will fit with either the proper/current & in stock side-bracket adaptor kit or a slightly modified side-bracket adaptor kit. That is where a 3T was needed to determine proper fitment of the mounting brackets and adaptor kit. Thank you to Swank3T for taking his 3T over to TireGate near LA so that they could take measurements.

These TireGates can either be mounted outward with the tire sticking out past the tailgate or inward where the tiregate is flush with the end of the bed, and the tire is inside the bed. Like this:

They also make a vertical tire mount version (VT Series) (which is the one that the natural gas-powered 3T with the Diamondback cover that toured the US last year had on his rig).

I will follow-up with more information about this project as soon as I know more but my goal is to to do whatever I can to get TireGate to make these available for the 3T. The guys at TireGate have been a pleasure to work with. Stay tuned!

I really like the VT. The PR certainly looks nice, but I think it is impractical because it takes that much space out of your bed. Not to mention it would likely not work with slantbacks.

UPDATE: I need to get in touch with a certain H4O member to set a date for him to take his T to the TireGate guys. They are ready to see if it fits but it will have to be a date that works for everyone.

Thanks Swank, I'll give you a call or send you a text message. I got your message last night about Mohave Road...are you thinking about doing the entire 138-mile trail or a couple of sections of it? I may want to join you.

My T is available and I live pretty close. However, the slant back topper and/or the spare tire gate might get in the way.

Mike & Chris, thank you. Swank has offered but he's down in San Diego and it's a couple hour drive for him each way to Tiregate, which is outside of LA.

Mike, since you live the closest, if you can drive over to Tiregatethat would be better but I'll call them first to see if there are any clearance issues with a snugtop on the top or on the right side or the T. I'll call you to let you know and if there are no clearance issues, to get an idea of when you might be able to stop by there. Thanks again Ryan, Mike & Chris. Another example of why this is such a great forum.

Its right at 200 miles each way for me. If I work it in with my Predator trips (Vista, CA) its not too bad.

It is 21.5 miles one way from my home, and 17.8 miles from my work. If I stop there on my way too work it is 6 miles out of my way. I think it is easier for me. The main question is will the slant back, spare tire gate or cargo slide be in there way.

Yes, they are fabbing up a new H3t bracket and will let me know when someone can go in & see if it fits. We are getting closer to making this happen - sorry it's taken so long.
