Hello all,

I am thinking about purchasing a low mileage diesel hard top truck. 15k miles on it. Anything to look at besides the HVAC and leaks. I dont really care about the cost of repairs under 5k but am worried about a bomb going off with the engine or transmission.

Your Thread title is confusing. Are you talking about buying an H1 Alpha ( 2006 model year only ) or a 95 H1? They are not the same by a long shot and you would get a lot of different answers depending on which it is.

Sorry this is a 1995 Hardtop H1 alpha truck (civilian) with 15k miles. The h1 alpha is getting some work down in a massive dealership in Florida as we speak. I dont know the specifics but they are giving it a look over and it should be completed by mid week.

1. I will speak with the mechanic and see what was done, what may need to be fixed, and what is worrisome.
2. I wanted to do a fact finding mission to see what failure points are in the this vehicle so I am armed with questions and concerns when i meet with the dealership mechanic.
3. The pictures look great in so far. I see no rust in undercarriage, engine bay or anywhere else. (1 owner at sub 18k miles)

Apologies everyone, I did not know the alpha was a 2006. I see thats were the confusion is coming from. It is not an alpha as it is a 1995 (it has a diesel engine in it though)

It should have the 6.5 diesel NA motor in it. Old school but pretty bullet proof. Check for leaks. Tranny, engine, wheel hubs, T-case, etc. See if the CTIS is hooked up and holding air. Ask if a "C" service was performed. Check interior parts. They are out of production and difficult and expensive to replace. Check windows and door locks to make sure the power actuators work. Big thing...make sure the AC works. The 95 has the older system and parts are out of production. Check for corrosion under the paint around the joint between the top and the lower body and around the barn doors. Does it have the undercarriage protection? Winch? Still have the 16.5" wheels or have they been upgraded?
