Rascole's sunroof drain repair

So I thought I had fixed my leaking drain for the sunroof. After a bath last weekend the carpet was wet again. So I started with a small piece of 14 gauge wire to push through the tube, after I heard it wiggling around the head liner I knew the problem. The tube had come free from the drain fitting. All my own fault.

I cleaned off the dirt, added a dab of sealant, and zip tied it to the fitting. That should keep it on.

Note to everyone else. DO NOT USE AIR OR STIFF WIRE TO CLEAN THE DRAIN.

I at first just cleaned the X shaped nipples, but eventually they clogged again. I then gutted them and that's great, but when it's wet/raining or the wind blows just right I get a lovely howl from the drains now. I guess that's my H3's way of telling me they're clear! If the sound goes away = investigate lol.

Same here, gutted the nipples on front ones and clipped the ones in the back and problem solved. IMHO, Open the "exit doors" or the clog will just repeat.

I have had a good track record with the air method. I set my regulator to low pressure (20 PSI if I recall). My truck primarily lives in the city so there is little chance of dirt getting in them.

Ok...I'll ask a third time:

If you didn't use air. And you didn't run a wire through it. Then what method did you use to "clean" the tube? I thought it was a simple question but maybe I'm missing something.

I think he just cleaned the drain nipple. He didn't use air or a wire because he didn't clean the tube, just the end that goes through the sheet metal.

Air worked on the drivers side. Not sure if it was the air or wire that pushed the tube off of the fitting.

Okay...I get it now. I thought maybe you used a .22 caliber bore brush or some other method. Regardless...pulling the headliner down sounds like a helluva job. Basically...be gentle and don't blow the hoses off the fittings.

You only need to pull part of the headliner down and it is easy. The zip tie and silicone are insurance to use air in the future. As for the bore brush, I tried that too but it is too stiff.
