Some Hummer Love ... and Hate

Yeah, my first Jeep was a Liberty. Its hard not to dislike the whole line after owning that cheap piece of plastic. Maybe I should have bought a different Jeep, like a Patriot? Or maybe the Compass? Not. Yeah, maybe a real offroad vehicle like a YJ. :/

I like our patriot. Drives like a go kart. Really light weight. Good gas mileage, great for around town stuff, Kick it into 4 wheel and it goes a lot of places. Not a hardcore wheeler, but still does well. Gonna put a lift and some slightly larger A/AT's on it.

I had always thought the Patriot had the basics to be a good offroad truck- smaller, lighter and more spartan inside. I just wasn't sold on the suspension and unibody construction, but for light offroading it looked alright.

I work at a dealership and have drove many patriots...they feel like cheap garbage with parts from other jeep products...I'm not a fan...only jeep IDE buy is a Rubicam...as for the hate...do you really expect love...face it most people dislike hummers...it is what it is!

Well I like ours alright. I don't feel at all like its a cheap piece of garbage. Although I don't feel like every rig I own has to go balls deep in my wallet for gas and accessories and be capable of heavy wheeling. I've been pleasantly surprised by what it has done, and it's fairly comfy. For cheaper weekend excursions exploring logging roads around Mt St. Helens to go hiking, scouting good wheelin trails, or scouting for good summer camp spots, I have yet to have any complaints.

be careful with that - their transmissions are fragile; and a dealer-only part (if manual). I have a friend with one (truly, an old man) and despite his driving it ssssllllllooooowwwwwlllllllyyyyy (never follow him, trust me on this) - his transmission went out at the normal mopar 60k. I sent him to another friend who owns a shop; and in talking to him, he said it's normal for these things to be in the shop at 60k to replace the transmission. Trans shops won't touch the transmissions, so it's a dealer-only part to replace... the only "brightside" is it's "only" 1800 for a new transmission from Jeep.

The Patriot which Fiat has slated production to shift to China, seems rather odd to produce it there but maybe it's a political/anti-union thing.

Throwing my .02 in on the Jeep topic, the current run of JK's do feel cheap with all that plastic...My H3 is way more solid feeling than my JK was, as for reliability I'm still deciding..
