Some SUT questions

I live in the boonies and don't really have any SUTs in the neighborhood to go inspect and would appreciate some info. Is the SUT's short bed really practical as in occasional pickup duty. How high high off the ground is it; seems high for heavy stuff? Does the rear partition stay weathertight? How common are SUTs with the rear air suspension.

(Posted this before but somehow it it became a reply to an unrelated post)

It's not practical to use SUT as pickup bed unless you fold up the backseat and drop down the midgate window and midgate. This is easy enough to do, everything is very smooth and folds up quickly. The problem with folding up the backseat for me is I'm 6 foot tall and have to move my driver seat forward to accommodate back seat folding. Not impossible, but not comfortable to drive any distance either. With midgate down you and your SUT are exposed to weather, so whatever you're moving needs to be in good weather (rains alot here in Florida and unpredictable to make a call to try this).
I've never heard any complaints about the midgate area leaking, or anything out of the ordinary leaking differently than a regular SUV H2.
I've seen a few SUT's with air suspension, they didn't seem any harder to find than a non-air SUT--overall while not impossible to come across, you've still got to try finding them.
When I was looking for our H2 in 2010 there weren't alot of them for sale in the Salt Lake area, though over several months I was able to find quite a few, just not the one I was looking for. You've got to spend a fair amount of time on the net looking over sites like Auto Trader dot com and ebay to get a feel for good pricing and areas of availability in the States. It seems like some areas like south Florida have a better, cleaner, low mile selection for decent prices. They also seem to be around the Phoenix area, though not always at the best price if coming from the dealers. A few Phoenix area H2's belonged to old folks, so if you can get to them before the dealer, you might be able to get a clean truck at a great price.
My wife and I both want to compliment our HUMMER collection with the addition of an SUT, hopefully before I turn into an old geezer myself!

It's not practical to use SUT as pickup ...
Good information, thanks. I don't need full time pickup duty but we're renovating the house and the cargo bed would come in handy. I've been looking for an H3T but they're rare...been kicking myself for not buying one new. Maybe I can find someone who'd trade their SUT for my Rubicon!

Funny thing about remodeling and what cars are good for moving house parts around. We're on our second Dodge/Chrysler minivan and have used both for moving lots of lumber, plywood and various landscape materials. While not as ideal as a full sized pickup, these vans can hold a large stack of 4x8 sheets of plywood, drywall, 2x12 lumber sticks and lots of other things you'd never know fit into these vans. The best part about using the van is with our unpredictable weather the materials are always high and dry inside.

Of course I'm not trying to disuade you from getting an SUT---quite the contrary, I'm sure it will be very handy with all of your intended indeavours, plus I know it does much better off road than a Town N' Country! :whaa:
