Hey All...
First thing, my freaking starter is finally in! I didn't do it myself. My loss. I found a great shop near the house (5 minutes) that is highly recommended by a bunch of people at my job. I drive by the place every day! It's in the back of the guys house and looks like a beat up old shack. Inside was 2 of the local fire trucks and ambulance. He does all of the county and city work. He sounds very honest and a great guy to talk to. Anyway... End of the starter story. I'm sure you all will miss my pissing and moaning about that damn starter... Im going to send the old one to Joe's Starters, I think.

Now, I know I have an exhaust leak. I can feel it when I'm under the hood. I don't smell anything inside so I guess it's ok for now. The shop guy said the leak is between the Y tube over the back of the engine and the single pipe. Not sure where that is so I'm going to look that up. He told me it would take 10-15 hours of work to fix it. DANG! It can't be that tough, can it? Do any of you know what he's talking about?
TNX Guys.

Hard to tell but is he talking about the turbo pipe? No way it is a 10-15 hour project, or is he taking the body off to do it?

I don't know what the deal is there. I asked him did he need to jack the engine out to get to it? He said yes, but maybe he's just not understanding what I'm looking to do. It didn't make any sense to me.

I have several good mechanical resources in central Texas but none close to you. Too bad you live at the edge of civilization. :)

Yep... That's a fact! :)
One day, I might drive out that way with a few problems for them to look at. In the mean time I best get more familure with the beast and take care of a few things myself.

The more you do yourself the more you save even though most of the guys I have found are very reasonable. Jay works for beer and Popeye's chicken and Chris only charges for about a third of the hours he works.

if you take off your consol and the engine cover, the turbo pipes are just under the heat shield on the back of the turbo. take the heat shield off and see which pipe is leaking.
the pipes are around $150.00 each plus i replace the two clamps that are $14.00 each. the job pays 3.0 hours labor but i can walk you threw it and you can do it your self.

Yeah, I couldn't figure what the guy was talking about when he said 10-15 hours. I'll bet he was thinking of tearing off the entire body. He said he could see the black smudge from the leak. Well, If you can see it, couldn't you get to it?
How much of a hassle is it to take the console and engine cover off?

It is just a couple of screws for the console and a couple for the engine cover with a couple of locking levers. You will have both off in under half a beer.
