Steering wheel controls

This might be kind of a strange question, but has anyone ever looked into doing a steering wheel swap? the H3 has no steering wheel controls which bugs me. I'd like to swap to a 2008-2013 (I think) GM truck steering wheel for the audio and cruise control buttons, and then later on when I get the 6-speed swapped in, some shifts switches.

I guess the first question to ask is if the wiring from the steering wheel goes to the BCM or straight to the stereo or transmission or whatever. Any ideas?

Ok, I looked into it and it looks like the signal from the steering wheel controls go to the BCM and then to the radio. That’s too complicated for me so I’m not going to bother with it.

I hear you. IDK if it would work. That would take some deep BCM programming knowledge most likely.

I always though it strange that back in 07 there weren't any steering wheel control options even *available* on the H3 where it was on other GM vehicles. C'Mon GM??!! IDK what GM was thinking. There was an opportunity to up-sell. Heck, I have an 03 Grand Cherokee which has way more options and features than were ever available on the H3. I'd like to say, "Less to go wrong" but I haven't had any problems with the steering wheel or other options on my Jeeps and they are much older and way more miles. Oh well....

I'm really surprised there aren't more little luxury type things in the H3 like automatic HVAC, too. I guess I can live without 🥲

Automatic HVAC is one option that commonly flakes out on a lot of cars & trucks, (or the myriad of blend doors that comes with it) ...glad I don't have THAT.
