That notorious center-console latch

I pulled my console lid apart the other day because the latch is broken (missing the actual catch). It sure looks like the same internals as the latch in the Sierra/Avalanche/Tahoe, though the bezel around the button appears to be a different shape. Has anyone ever tried to swap the latch internals over from a "regular" GM truck? I'm not exactly thrilled to have to drop $200 on a replacement console lid just to get the latch working again.

Needless to say, if it is possible to swap the actual latch internals, I'll reinforce the heck out of the catch before I button everything up.
