Transmission issue

Just cranked my H2 and tried to put it in gear. The shift lever moves easily but the dash still shows it is in park. Crawled underneath with a flashlight and the linkage is still connected. I am away from home so before I take the console apart to check the top part of the linkage wanted to see if anyone had a better idea.

Sounds like the shift cable. Usually, it at the trans side of it with the plastic bushing. Although, I have seen it at the shifter.
You can manually shift the trans into drive at the cable end where it meets the trans. BUT, MAKE SURE THE E BRAKE IS ON, if you are doing it yourself

Thanks. When I pulled on the cable at the transmission it seemed tight so I guess I will take the console apart in the morning to check the cable at the shifter.

Here is the culprit. As soon as I slid it back on we could drive it home.

Shift cable. You can buy aftermarket bushings, they don’t work well. Buy an OEM cable and replace the whole thing, don’t try and swap out the bushing. It won’t last long
