Where to take the H1 for State Inspections?

Hey Y'all....
Tomorrow, I will need to take the H1 to a State Inspection place before the State of Texas will give me tags. I normally take the H2 to a local tire store/inspection place, but not too sure if I want those guys taking things apart to check brakes and the such. If they start taking the wheels off with the CTIS hoses going through the hubs, who knows what damage they can do. I'll tell them the brake pads are not on the wheels but you never know what will happen. Now... Never being under an H1, I don't know how accessable the brakes are. Can the pads be seen easily? I think the rest of the stuff is lights, horn, and tire tread.
Would you take the H1 to a normal inspection place?

The pads are easily seen from underneath without touching anything and they are inboard so taking the wheel off does nothing for them. If you go to a place that thinks the wheel needs to come off you are in the wrong place. Don't remember where you are located in Texas. And yes a normal inspection place should be fine but one where you can watch what they do would be best.

Any place that does inspections can do an H1. Most don't crawl under to look at the pads and the ones that do look by the wheels and when they do no see the brakes they don't ask. I have had mine inspected in Waco and Dallas and the only issue I had was Dallas wanted to do a smog and I had to explain the regulations that the older truck do not require smog. He did not even go check the regulations he just slapped a sticker on it. Good luck with it.

I live in Victoria, Texas just SW of Houston about 120 miles. I wonder if the smog deal will work for a 97?
I'm going to tell the guy to let me watch even if I stand outside the bay doors.
Good info Guys!

Is there something special about inspecting an H1?

All of my past inspections have consisted of a quick looksie at the lights and tires, test drive for brakes and a tail pipe sniff.

But then, I have not watched them the past few inspections.....had it done at the dealer during normal maint..

Something change recently?

BTW...
GOT IT! It's in the driveway next to the deuce! I might cry!
It's a beast! A bunch of rusty bolts and such. Its a 97! Is there an easy way to clean up the bolts?
Front right turn signal doesn't work. Back right really bright. Must be a bulb?? Got some work to do before inspection time. Not too bad I think.
The dang thing was built on my birthday! Looking at the vehicle side tag has the build date. Exactly the month and day! The year is another story though. Must be a sign!

I just replace them. You can pull them and repaint. In CA a 97 would not require a smog test. 98 and up do require a smog test. Not sure about Texas. Congrats!!!

Oh yeah! I'm higher than a kite right now!
Funny as hell. The transport turned into the neighborhood and I swear most of the men came out of their houses and wanted to see it up close! All I heard was WOW, and holly shlt!
I'm liking it!

The bulb that is too bright is the wrong buld. Make sure to replace not what is in the truck but what it calls for. Check the owners manual.

You know it man! Really high pitch too.
I got some work to do on it tomorrow. Clean up. rust removal. rug cleaner. Yada Yada. Got to figure out how to fix the rust spots between the upper and lower parts. I hear that is normal and a bitch to fix.
Still happy as a pig in sh..!

Here's one for ya... I went out to the H1 and tried the turn signal again and it worked just fine. The bulb in back wasn't bright anymore. Before when I turned on the right turn signal, it turned on in the back and the front was not on at all. Back turn signal light wasn't blinking. Same with the dash turn signal. Just stayed on. Now works good. Any thoughts on that?

Bad ground contact? There's a bunch of ground loops on the rear light wiring inside the rear wheelstations, I'd clean those contacts and check for rust or damage.

if the rear light cam on and the dash indicator light was lit and the front one did not light up it will be either the front bulb or the socket is warn out. i normally clean the socket and change the bulb. you can tell were your problem is by turning on the four way flashers and see which bulbs work. the one not blinking is you problem.

Weird... I haven't been able to make the problem come back. It works just fine. I think I will take the bulbs out and clean them. A bit of bulb grease also.
I took the 1 to get it inspected today. Passed with no problem! Yea! Took the paperwork to the DMV and got the tags! I'm legal! COOL!
It's like driving a parade float. Lots of stares. Being yellow its hard to miss it. I got the ultimate look today at the pumps. This older lady driving a small honda something, pulled up next to me at the pump. Being a nice guy, I said Good Morning. She just stood there with a nasty frown and shaking her head back and forth. Man I love that! This is going to be fun!!!
