I took my winch apart (not entirely on purpose... I sure didn't mean to take THESE parts out...) in order to tap the threads on the drum. But when I took the drum out, these parts came out and I wasn't able to tell how to put them back together. These parts don't even show on the rebuild parts list here on milemarker.com. (I did put it back together without these parts (just to keep it contained) and it's still fully functional without them, but would rather put it back together right.)

Anyone know how to put this sucker back together? :) Specifically: just those small parts in teh picture below. I got the basics but these seemed to pop out befor eI got a good look at how.

Right now the winch is still wired in and sitting under the truck in the driveway... hoping to get rebuild info from one of us or from Milemarker on Tuesday.

Here's my extra parts: they go in the right side (clutch housing?) but I'm not sure how.

Here's the ER table (don't know who that mechanic is...):

My best guess is that it looks to me like Part#8 blow'ded up on ya! 76-50151-08 Brake/Shaft Assembly. The 3 pieces are the broken retainer for the spring. Look in the diagram and you will see the retainer with a 3 pronged "thingy" holding it in. Remove the drum again and the brake shoes and you may see what I'm talking about. Not sure what the "rubber seal" looking thing is. Is it plastic, steel or rubber (upper left in your plate picture)?

Yep, part 8 blowed up on me real good! These parts though are from in the housing... there are 3 springs, and then 3 prong things (all steel), but their diameter is larger than what I remember them coming (flying) out of. But shoot, maybe I remember wrong and they came off of the left end of #8? Shoot...

Ok, I called MileMarker: those guys are great. They said I've got a shattered brake assembly and are selling me a new brake assembly. I'll be able to slap that bad boy right in there and be good to go-- no guesswork involved. Will post some pics when I get the parts but I expect it to be a week or so.

Parts ordered: just about $50 for the replacements.

Ok, a rebuild thread will be coming soon... took lots of pics, have had the bumper on and off about 7 times...

I broke the ground to the switch the last time and the winch was dead. I was cussing and about to go buy a new winch but called Milemarker tech support and they got me straightened out, turns out that I just need to re-attach the ground from the control. I also learned that you shouldn't ground the winch motor to the frame, it's a good way to fry your cpu!!!! The MM guy said that when using the winch, if it's grounded to the frame you end up with a ****load of current goung through the frame and you can easily damage something major. Anyone care to comment on that? So you should ground the MOTOR directly to the battery, which I re-wired as such after talking to him. :)

I also learned that winching OUT can really kill the brake and overheat things very quickly, you should always free-spool out if you CAN, as winching out does use the brake quite a bit.

Anyways, after talking with Milemarker support a bit, I'd definitely recommend thier winch. Seems to be pretty reliable and easy to rebuild should you need to. I'll post a rebuild thread once I get the winch switch re-grounded and the bumper re-mounted. Stay tuned!

Glad to hear everthing is working now! I have always been told to ground the winch directly to the battery. I believe it also states that in the install manuals of most winches. I also "try" to freespool as much as possible to save power in the battery. Didn't think about the brake.

I have always free spooled my winch lines out also. I have a 12,000# Warn winch on the 98. haven't had any issues with it yet but imagine that the rebuild would be similar. Looking forward to the rebuild thread Dan.
