Bigunit, kd7irm and I went to Scorpion 4x4 to take advantage of Dwayne the owner's shop and skills. We went with two small projects - weld on the Hunner Extreme front leaf skid and to pop out the crossmember bushing for the H3 front diff (see H3 thread for the crossmember discussion).
Dwyane creates some amazing things, including this Scorpion MK1
He also has this DARPA autonomous drive vehicle. This can be remotely controlled or can drive on its own.
There's a wee bit of computer power in here.
Another project is this frame off restoration of this fire truck. New Cummins engine and Allison transmission are included. The fire truck was commissioned by the Last Alarm Foundation which benefits fallen firefighter. This actually doubles as a hearse with a motorized tray that is lowered and accommodates a casket using the same hardware as a traditional hearse.
We had a few projects: Hunner front and rear skids, rear +2" shackles for kd7irm and my crossmember. kd7irm will likely post more pics of the front skids.
Dwayne provided his "floor jack" to help raise the H3
This made it much easier for Bigunit and kd7irm to do both the shackles and the bolt on skids. Unfortunately the Hunner skids wouldn't line up with the OEM plates so a little grinding of the OEM plates was necessary to get the u-bolt holes to line up. The OEM plates could have been deformed from a bit of trail testing.
It is so much easier to get jobs done when you have the right tools and an excellent mechanic supporting you.
