One of my buddies, who is in DEP with me and has an 03 TJ, and I were talking about our rigs. He mentioned he got a custom exhaust system done on it, we went out to his truck and it sounded really nice. He had it straight piped off the headers and it resulted in a mean rumble. Well this morning he and I went to a shop in Manassas so I could get an estimate. Got there when they opened and the guy who helped me took a quick look and then we put it up on the lift.

I told him that I wanted a cat-back system so I didn't have to worry about emissions failing and also inquired about removal of the resonator. After a quick gander and talking, we landed on a price of $500. He cut the exhaust right before the resonator, removing it, and obviously the muffler and tail pipe. In place, a Magnaflow dual exhaust system was installed with two stainless steel pipes all the way out.

Here is how the tail pipes look now...

And finally, here's how he sounds now...

The guys at the shop were really cool and were able to get the entire project done in about 50 minutes. I ended up driving home with giant smile on my face the entire time

. Anybody who wants a throaty roar, I highly recommend getting the magnaflow system

Sounds mean! I currently have the Borla exhaust on mine but thinking of having one custom made and better tucked away for offroading.

^ yeah, I was looking into the borla system when I first bought the 3, but I figured a custom exhaust would be the better route for me

Also I should be getting a gobi rack in a few months, so exciting stuff to come

Looking good! FYI, if you plan to do any wheeling, having the exhaust bent up and then down for clearance is a good idea rather than tips sticking out.

probably goin stealth rack, I think it has a cleaner more sleek appearance to it

ABNTROOP, the guy at the shop was telling me the same thing but I liked the straight pipe look better. I figured if I can change it whenever I feel

So I got my first offroad trip with the Alpha tomorrow so I changed and added a couple of things that will remain permanent...

First, I had the exhaust chopped back so it's no longer sticking out from under the bumper, thanks to ABNTROOP for that suggestion. Second, I ordered and just added a set of OEM rockers. Excited to get this baby on a real trail tomorrow

I took the spare tire cover off this morning to find that the spare rim is different from the rest.... looks like I'm going to have to hunt one down now :gaah:

Hey guys,

I'm getting the tires installed now, I'll try and put some pics of the finished product up later but so far I've done a good amount of work...

I started by ordering in the "front leveling kit" from Trail Duty, got two Bilstein 5100s and extended front bump stops. Also order a new locking gas cap to install. And obviously the Mud Grapplers (pic above) which are getting installed right now.

First I cranked up the T-bars to just over 23"

After I did that I put in the new shocks and bumpstops which put me right where I wanted, 23.5", on the dot. I put on some liquid wrench on the bolts for the shocks the night before so they came off fairly easy. Bump stops, cake. Then installing the shocks went in pretty quick as well. All in all, the shocks and bump stops took just over 2 hrs. not bad, eh?

after doing that last night I can officially say I've put blood, sweat and [STRIKE]tears[/STRIKE] into this vehicle :giggle:

I'm going to do the gas cap some time this week I think and finish the interior lights as well. I also have a license plate light to install that I've had for some time now

This might be a stupid question but what's the point of the extended bump stops? I realize the t-bar crank puts more space in between the a-arms and bump stops. Is it just so you don't bury your tire into your fender if you get too much air?

yes, also the nose dive is increased considerably once you crank the bar so putting in extended bump stops cuts it down as well
