This hit the market recently and there's already a lot of talk about it...supposedly in the past ways to waterproof things were much more expensive and done by pros but now this came out.

I am thinking of doing my BCM with this...it's cheap and easy and ill have a BCM on standby in case this destroys it. One of us have to be the first to try it so I may do it.

This stuff looks great. I've ordered some and I plan on doing a full review/test when I get it in. I van already think of a million uses for it.

Rustoleum has the material sheet up on their website. The product is 2 cans of spray, a base coat and a top coat. The base coat is a petroleum base and I have no clue what the top coat is.

I'm hoping that its nonconductive so you can waterproof your electronics. I also want to see how easy it is to remove from various surfaces.

Its not available in any of the stores near me yet, but you can order it online from Home Depot and pick it up in store. That's what I did. Once I get it I'm going to try it on various surfaces and liquids and see how it holds up.

Yeah. I saw they used it on an iPhone, but I'm still cautious. I've also seen some people saying it doesn't last that long or comes off on your hands. I would hate to be in that situation where you count on the coating and it fails you. I just like testing things. I was an engineer in school so I just get comforted having testing and data to fall back on.

Not sure but the BCM is inside so heat shouldn't be too bad

Lol....well maybe. I don't want to but seeing if this test works it could change the future of water crossing problems forever. Granted you may have other glitches with the electrical but if you can dunk your BCM people won't be afraid of water anymore and then we can track down and coat other problematic things

I don't think this is as good as the processes that are coming out for mobile electronics and such but, a BCM would be relatively easy to coat and would not be subject to any type of wear. On the off chance that the BCM were to get wet, for $20, this stuff would surely be worth whatever protection it provided.

And does this stuff work for submersion or just to repel water?

My Razr has something like this applied and from reading forums, it works great for rain or occasional splashing, but not for total submersion in water.

If it works for repelling water only, and you have a sunroof, this could be the answer to the dreaded right front sunroof drain hose clogging that forces water over the BCM.

I'm curious....(not that there is any damn water out here in Moab to drive through that's deeper than my big toe)

The barrier it sets up will keep it dry when submerged, but you still need to be concerned about the other problems of deep water. Plus it won't fill holes like those around the wires. Its not a miracle fix but it may get you 70% of the way there, which is a lot better than no protection.

Yes, water wicks up through wiring and will cause corrosion.

You can use dielectrical grease for your connectors to give it extra protection. Still, it will save you from splashes only. When you deal with submersion you deal with pressure. It is just a matter of how dip you can go with all that. Still, this spray is better then nothing at all.
