Well, this is a good sign that H3s are getting older. This guy logged 260k miles on his 06 and is now throwing a diesel in it.

I know we all talk big about diesel swaps, 5.3 swaps, 6.0 swaps, 6.2 swaps but no one has really done one. Granted big shops have but not the average DIYer in their garage. I dont have 18k to throw into a swap, If its skills or money I would use my skills and even then my skills are lacking when it comes to this. My viewpoint still stands that the motor and trans will last longer if we could regear and put it back in the powerband and it wont be such a pig. I believe the stock motor could actually be somewhat enjoyable with a tune, a regear and some other little basic modifications. This is really cool though, so without further delaying this, here is a build thread of a guy who decided enough is enough about talking and dreaming. Hes just gonna do it. I joined up just to see the pictures and the motor is already out and the 4BT is in but still have electrical, fuel and other misc stuff. I dont wanna bombard him with a billion questions on his forum, I will PM him and ask him to throw a build thread on here.

I do think he's going to have a hard time maintaining anything close to a factory front suspension with that engine and its weight. Certainly a cool project.

Agreed. It seems like he wants to get it all running and get a baseline for the motor then change things. When he gets it running the front end will probably have to change

Wow, you have to have some organizational skills and maybe a little OCD on the details.

Those welds were insane. It wasnt Casey who did em but his fab guy. I checked out some other stuff the fab guy makes and all I can see is damn...he's talented

Very cool. This was my plans once the I5 took a dump. Good to see I have something to follow.

However, through a LS in sounds nice... I would have to change my handle to 6.xL Garage. That way all my vehicles would be 6 liter or bigger.

As a diesel lover, I know a few guys here have done 4BT's and have said they prefer the Hemi/ LS swaps in the JK. I can't imagine it myself, but it seemed pretty consistent that it wasn't the preferred swap... hearing that made me sad. I'd LOVE to do a 4bt... sweet little motor!!!

Thanks to those of you that have been following my build and cross linking it here for all to enjoy. The project is almost finished. I've gotten to the point where I'm able to drive on the road. I have about 80 miles on it so far mostly tuning the transmission controller on some short trips and working out the little details. It starts and drives like a factory system. All the gauges work except the speedo and I know what the issue is, I just missed a wire connection with the standalone transmission controller that I need to find time to connect.

I am using the 4L60e transmission which takes some hardware changes to make it fit right to the adapter. Factory driveline is all retained. I had to shorten the front driveshaft 1/2" but that will be remedied in a future revision of the motor mounts.

I still have things like intake and exhaust to complete as well as AC lines. I plan on doing ECU work in the future to clear out all the messages in the DIC. The funniest one yet displays "REDUCED POWER". Engine is untuned at this point until I get boost and EGT gauges hooked up. Here are a few pics of the build. Full details and discussion can be found in my build thread on http://www.4btswaps.com. If there are any other questions not covered there I can try to answer them here.
