I fixed my leaking moon roof

Just like so many of you with this issue, my passenger floorboard was getting wet during rain. Then before I fixed it it started leaking through the moonroof switch and water followed the wiring to the rear view mirror. Got up the other morning fir work and the truck was saying onstar ready, onstar ready. I'm like wtf? Then I see water driping out of the mirror it's self on to the dash. Crap! I waited until after work and read everything off the forum for my plan if attack. I pulled the headliner down enough to see on the passenger side that the plastic drain tube was separated from the rubber nipple and I could reach it! Sweet! I put a little ultra black around the end and shoved it Bach into place. Put the headliner back together and tested it. No water came back to the rear view mirror but the floorboard filled up. Crap! So I removed the winshield puller cover again and the panel on the side of the dash to the right of the glovebox. From there I could see the drain tube where there is another nipple where the line is suppose to connect into the firewall. Guess what? Disconnected! Did the same thing, got it back together tested it and hear comes the water out the bottom of the truck! Problem solved! I took a few pics of the project if anyone ever needs them I'll upload them to photo bucket and link it. (Don't know how to get a picture on a post). Once again great site we have here, tons of info on just about everything!

congrats on the repair - worst case in that scenario is it drains onto your bcm (right kick panel) and fries it.

but seriously

Moon roof? is that like pop (as in soda pop)? maybe it's because we don't see the sun but on the west coast, that's a sun roof...

Michigan, not much sun lately.....lol. No I did not open the end up. I read it's hard for us big guys to reach it. It was clear , both sides. Flows great. I really don't know how it came apart at two places? Maybe the previous owner tried to blow it out with air? Or would a airbag deployment do it? My 06 was hit hard and the dealer said my bags deployed from what the computer said. It was very hard to reach into that side cover to plug the line back into the rubber nipple in the firewall. The ultra black I put around it should keep it there though.......:) I'll upload some pics to my photo bucket and link them. That's the only way I know how to share them.

air pressure could have done it... honestly, I just had to deal with this on my Land Rover and I took the plugs off the end of the line. Were it me, before I put the dash together, I'd have put air pressure down the line to blow the plug off because if it is blocked enough to blow a line, it's probably still blocked.

I put everything on Photobucket, it makes it easier to organize and share pictures.

Where did you reach in to reattach the top portion? I think this is my issue as I have removed the lowers before and bored them out pretty good

I'm under my truck as I'm typing this, I just changed the rear axel lube and getting rdy to do the front but I only bought 4 qts. The rear took a little more than 2 so now I'm not sure I have enough. Does the front take a little less than 2 I hope? It looks smaller?

For the top one under the headliner just pull the liner down a little and it gives you plenty of room. as for the firewall, that one cut the crap out of my wrist reaching in! See links above for pictures......:)

I think my driver rear line is either clogged or disconnected up top. I opened up the grommets a few weeks ago and still having issues. How easy is it to drop the headliner?

Removing the headliner is a 4 hour job per my local body shop @$44.00 an hour. That's why I fixed my own. If the rears are disconnected maybe you can get away with removing the seatbelt area hardware and pull it down enough to see if they are.
