Your truck still looks great and you use it down in baja! Thats very good. It sure beats every other hummer in the town that has never seen dirt.

What Chris is very cool and what he needed to do because of the type of wheeling he does. Not everyone needs the capability that Chris has created so don't run your own truck down just because it isn't like Chris's truck, remember that very few are.

Stock H3s can do a ton. I wheeled with it stock for a while and it does everything other stock/slightly modded vehicles can do plus some. The trails I do nobody is stock because they can't be...other then an h1 but they are exceptions to just about every rule.

What I love about this is that it has no solid axle front end quirks. It rides like stock if not better. If someone who didn't know much about cars drove a stock h3 and then mine they would probably say it feels the same other then being taller. H3s are a great candidate for the SAS because they are such great dual purpose vehicles and I have no problem driving it 1000 miles in comfort on road. I wouldn't feel worn out or beat up....just tired from driving 1000 Miles.

I have taken my H3 from stock to modified. Every step has been great. I still stand by the rancho spring over combo it's just 35s won't cut it for the trails I wanna do especially when the only vehicles I'm with that do run 35s have half the wheelbase I do. Either way no matter what level your H3 is at I can appreciate it. They are great vehicles and I don't ever seeing myself in any other brand.

What I was trying to do is poke fun at the last picture of our H3's parked next to each other after you did the SOA . Now when I park next to you ,we will look like big and little Enos .

Tonight I went to flex it out again, I got my new springs but havent installed em yet. They are a dual rate bronco spring from wildhorses4x4. I hope they work out well for me. I have been doing some thinking and I really want a no compromises build. I have 14in travel shocks. They are limiting my uptravel. They are long shocks and my shock mounts are all the way up into the fender. I need shorter shocks to use all my uptravel but the length of shock I have now will work out well to help me achieve full droop. I have roughly 3in of uptravel on the shock. I can get more uptravel then that without doing anything but a shorter shock. After that it would require the framerail to be notched for more track bar and drag link clearance. I was thinking about it, for on road the length of the shock would help with more uptravel but I wont notice it much improvement on road but off road it will help. I thought about shock hooping it into the fender. The battery is in the way on the driver side and the windshield wiper reservoir is in the way on the passenger side. Moving the windshield wiper reservoir should be easy. Moving the battery is tougher but looking at the dual battery setups I think I can move my current battery inboard and turn it and it will allow me to put my shock up through the fender into the engine bay. This will allow me to get my maximum up travel without killing my droop. Anything to improve on road and off road handling is worth it to me.

At this point I have done the custom crossmember for the long arms, flipped the drag link end over the pitman arm for more uptravel so it doesnt hit the tie rod as quickly so why stop now. I might as well continue the trend and get as much travel as possible.

So far the only known shock hooped H3 is Rod Halls race rig lol

Oh yeah...14" is too long. I'm running 12"s and I think 10"s would work even better. I've got the non-adjustable version of the Ballistic Fab towers, and when the truck is at rest...I have probably 4" of exposed shaft. That matches my up travel pretty closely. Unlike you...I have no way to adjust the towers.

I think a lot of guys confuse "travel length" with actual "shock length". 18" of mount distance often translates into 10" of travel. This is because you need to size the shock so it's static length is mid-stroke (with some shaft exposed). This will give you "running room" on the stroke and prevent damage should you bottom out. I also think most shocks operate better at mid stroke, than they do at max or min stroke...so I try to keep the static position somewhere around the 1/3 point of the total travel. I use 1/3 because my rig sits at rest about 1/3 into into its total travel....4" up & 8" down. Each vehicle is different and you need to coordinate the static length with compression and droop for that particular set-up.

Hoops would be cool for sure. My droop is limited by shock length, not springs....and longer shocks mean more droop. But the static position is the one that counts, and it's where you spend 99% of your drive time. I'm sort stuck with what I got and the only way I can gain droop is with some "thru the hood" hoops. Good thing I don't want more!

Dixie4x4 built this one. It's a full build, 30,000 dollars worth. Dana axles fox suspension Currie anti-rock sway bars etc etc etc. The owner took it in for a Rancho lift and they told him they had repaired a lot of those and he agreed to do an all out build on it. I found it on instagram a while back and have been following him. I'll ask him if I can get more pictures than the few he has posted

Yea I know him I know he had steering issues for 30k I would be raising hell if I had steering issues. My shock hoops would go up into the engine bay

Didn't they use a jk box on his truck Chris? Gotcha. What about your airbox? Where would it go? Then the fuse box and batteries would go inside the truck?

I've asked him countless time to join up and he doesn't seem really interested.

Yeah...that's a safe assumption. Anybody that can be talked from a simple Rancho install, to a $30K SAS build...is probably not interested anything we have to say.

Damn. Why can't I find customers like that? :giggle:

Yea, they did Airbox would stay put, it would be the windshield washer fluid reservoir that would need to be moved. Fuse box would stay put also. Battery would have to be moved to the position of how they do dual battery setups.

You just get stuck with asshats like me. Guys who wanna problemsolve with the least amount of money.

Hes a cool guy, small world. He just got married to my friends girlfriends cousin and they live in a different state and I found him on instagram.

Off road evo, dixie 4 wheel drive basically all the big name shops really makes me wonder. Were viewed as 2 dumbasses in a garage. You found a box that works much better then a JK box and you dont need a special 2k PSC power steering pump (he needs one because he said he had almost no power steering) I did a custom crossmember to allow longer arms to off road evo I would think long arms are super important I mean c'mon its offroad bling! for all that money you should be getting more then just a long arm. It really is disappointing.

One shop I would trust though is Highergroundfab in Sylmar, CA. I have spoke with the owner multiple times and has been around when all these big name shops just started up. He had a choice to go big but chose to stay small because he would rather build quality rigs and think outside the box rather then pump out SAS rigs and JKs with all the nonsense you dont need and make them mainstream rigs like ORE JKs they are all the damn same. This guy makes everything to your spec whether or not it takes an extra month to do so.

Here is an update. I ordered bronco coil springs from wildhorses4x4. I went with a gen 1 Bronco coil spring. Dual rate. First rate is 239 second rate 375.

Body roll is MUCH better. Its not perfect but a sway bar would make it non existent. Ride quality is still awesome. I just need to now adjust my coil buckets up so it can lower my ride height. These springs gave me roughly 2in of lift. Once I lower it then it will be all good.

I pulled the front driveshaft because running an automatic locker on the front axle is noisy even with the hubs unlocked and I am driving to vegas on friday. I will just leave the driveshaft in the back. To remedy this I found a used selectable OX locker and selling the automatic detroit locker will help offset the price.

Other then those two things thats all for updates right now. Been daily driving it and loving it. It doesnt ride like a tractor or even a jeep for that matter. It doesnt feel like I have a SA up front. Its great.

Swapped out coil springs rather quickly....
