Contest: The H1/HMMWV "Mystery" Hole

What's the purpose of this little hole (circled in red w/arrow in pic below) just to the upper right of the driver side tailgate hinge on the H1 (Hint: it's on all military HMMWVs)?

I'm guessing some form of access hole / entry hole for something as part of the assembly process

Is that where they mount the laser ranger. It's a "laser" sensor that detects vehicles approaching from the rear since most hmmwv you can't see behind you.

...ill tempered seabass! Now that's one hell of a guess...but, no...that's not the correct answer. You guys are really close - but so far, no one has hit the nail precisely on the head. Keep guessing! I guess I'll have to pick a nicer item from the stash for the winner.
