Ahh why couldn't you ask this while I was in Iraq we had a bazillion HMMWV (well ok maybe not a bazillion but a lot) We have almost zero here in Saudi @ Eskan we had zero in Jeddah where I was at and the ones we have at Eskan are bare used only for trans for the cops to drive oh and there r a couple up-armors for security. I have yet to see any setup for convoy/ OTW use

1. It's where the return line for the flux capacitor that makes the M998 go 88mph., 2. It's for the mount of the IR panels so friendly forces wouldn't shoot our team!, 3. If its none of the first two, then I don't know what it is! Maybe it's a pen holder for the mechanics?

Hm, as best I can tell it's a hole to allow misc wiring to be attached to, for example, sat comm equipment or whatever else they decide to place in the truck bed

I read one of our old technical manual, then I confirmed it with our old school motorpool sergeant. It's on a couple of our old military vehicles...

yeah! Had me thinking till he said all hmmwv's had it, I went through 3 TM's(technical manuals), did you know that even the old military willy's jeep has them too.
