H3 Towing behind an RV?

We're toying with the idea of buying a Class A RV; 36 ft or so. Sometimes we'd want to tow the H3. I haven't any experience with pushers or flat towing. Salesmen only point at hitch ratings, but that tells me nothing related to the engine or trans capability. I'm thinking of those long mtn grades in 110 degree heat.

Prime question are:
How's the H3's towability?
How can I determine whether a pusher's drivetrain and brakes can handle it?
Is there a minimum HP vs tow wgt table somewhere?
How does it effect RV fuel mileage?

Suggestions and recommendations would be appreciated.

The H3 was designed to be easy to flat tow. In your owners manual it tells you how. I have had many RV's and have towed many trailers but the only thing I have flat towed is my CJ7 and a van. A diesel pusher is the way to go and 325hp or more would be best. They make a brake assist that applies the brakes on the towed vehicle so it will stop itself. Check camping world for more detail but they do work great. Bro of Bro should chime in and has an H3 Alpha he flat tows and should have some good insight.

The H3 is a great vehicle to tow behind a motorhome. It is heavier that a Jeep but more than makes up for it in comfort when you get where you are going. We have towed our H3 Alpha about 5000 miles with no issues at all. I do have a brake assist for the H3. There are many different tow bar baseplates available. I choose one that simply bolts to where the front two tow hooks mount. They are easy to install and remove if I want to put the tow hooks back on. I can't tell you how much HP it takes to comfortably tow it. I have only pulled it behind my 500HP Detroit Series 60 with a six speed Allison.

I'm not familiar with "brake assist"? How's that operate? Does it engage the H3 brakes or boost the RV's brakes?

There are several available, some are activated by an electronic signal some by air. The electric are the simplest and work ok. I think mine is a Blue Ox. It activates the towed vehicles brakes to assist the motorhome in stopping the vehicles. It is required in most states for towing anything oveer a specified weight.

Or I might could save you a lot of time and sell you our 2008 H3 Alpha 41000 miles with new tires rigged to tow since my wife just decided to let me by a 2009/10 H3.
