Shift lever hard to move.

A friend of mine has a 2007 which all of a sudden the shift lever is reluctant to move into or out of any position. Transmission works fine once it's in gear, so it appears to be some issue with the linkage. Is there a common cause that might lead to a quick fix that I could check for him?

Haven't heard of a common cause but I have had to have my linkage adjusted

This is on an H2. Not saying that the H3 may or may not be similar.

Sorry, I was on my phone and missed the section.

Since it's an H2 . . . it could be that 40 of malt liquor behind the shift that's preventing it from moving out of Park.
