With that few miles on it, unless they were really diligent, the lack of use could have created more issues than a good bit more activity would have caused.

That is up for debate. Some are treated really well when not use or used. Just depends on the owner

Most trucks that are not used much don't get the care they need to remain in good condition. Seals are allowed to dry out, grease/oil/lubricants are allowed to drain and not provide the lubrication required, etc. I have to admit that it was difficult to keep my old Corvettes, Ferrari's etc as well as they should have been. It is easy to forget to go out and start them and run all the systems regularly. 5000 miles in 20 years meant they had a lot of that type of thing to do.
