747 Crash in Afghanistan! Hard to Watch.

At first I thought it was a fake but unfortunately it seems it isn't. Looks like they stalled out at low speed and low altitude. Ugh.

Yes, sadly it's true - it was an national guard cargo plane - almost all of the on-board crew were from the State of Michigan. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those died - may they rest in peace.

Saw this yesterday.......... Taliban trying to claim they shot it down.......... Video clearly shows that it is a stall............Initial reports are suggesting that the cargo shifted causing weight/balance issues on takeoff (Pilots are also instructed to takeoff steeply so that they are less likely for RPG attack)

I usually don't even look at the comments under a YouTube video. The lowest common denominator class seems to have grown quite large.

I work around pilots. One I was talking to doesn't think the cargo shift. If it was the plane would have come down tail first. In the video the plane leveled out before it pancaked in.
Either they took off too steep, lost an engine or calculated the load wrong. Not that we will ever likely to hear the investigation results

I read that since it crashed on a US military instalation. It's going to be investigated by the NTSB. So we should be able to find out what they find. May take awhile though.

That happen on BAF where I'm station at. I live next to the runway and seen from take off to crash. Less then a football field down the runway from where we live is where it went down. The smell of the burning fueling and black smoke was... never mind but the chains to some of the MRAP's snap and rolled to the back of the plane. Also from take off the noise was way to high and the wind wasn't helping any, they should of grounded all the planes at that time. The area is stillclosed off but it was pretty nuts for a few hours after that.

No doubt a stall, but obviously dont know why. Textbook look to the stall. Very high nose pitch, not enough airspeed to maintain lift, slowest wing dives first, not a damn thing to do to correct it at this altitude. If it happened at 15,000 it would have taken a few thousand feet to correct. At 1500 feet, you're just dead.

Very hard to watch. Even harder is knowing that a trained pilot would have recognized the problem and known the final outcome as it was happening. Means they knew they were dead 10 seconds before it hit. Personally, I dont want to see it coming...

Its a stall, plain and simple. Nothing being shared that isnt public knowledge. Caused by pilot error or mechanical failure, doesn't matter as I can tell.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner but everything that's been said on this thread is know facts. I just shared the bit on where I was at and what the "load" was.

A AF friend mentioned it looked like the load shifted back.. then back forward... we'll see what the investigation brings.
