well this is the 3rd year I am posting this to remind everyone, NEVER FORGET! I will share you guys a story this year about a very good friend of ours. He basically lives at our house and is my brothers best friend.
I will copy and paste it but he makes me proud. Its great to see someone pay so much respect and never forget on such a tragic day especially when he wasnt directly affected as many of the californians do not even remember...
My mom posted this on facebook and tagged the 343 never forget 9/11 page and then they took the story and reposted it on their account for the world to see.
"I would like to tell everyone on this site an amazing story that proves that, in this life, and in death, we are all connected. It is a story about the "coincidence" that began a few years ago and culminated in an amazing and touching moment for my family and a young man who touched our hearts, not only by being part of our lives, but by his dedication and honor in remembering those that died on 9/11. It's a little long, but if you read through it I think you'll agree it was worth it. The backstory began years ago, when my oldest son, Chris, started Kindergarten at the Seaford Harbor School in Seaford, NY. He met and became good friends with a wonderful boy named Anthony Carbone. They went through school together, played sports together, hung out, etc. Dawn Haskell Carbone, Anthony's mom, was Chris' religious ed teacher, taking him up through confirmation in 7th grade. She also became my friend. Sadly, on Sept. 11, 2001, Dawn lost 2 of her brothers, Tommy and Timmy Haskell, both NYC fireman, in the attack on the WTC. It was obviously a terrible time for their family, as it was for so many families, for the nation, really. Going to their memorial service for surreal. We all watched as the horrors of that day became the new reality for everyone. But as they say, life goes on, and it did. Life as we knew it was forever different, but it did go on.... Therefore, fast forward several years.....my husband's firm transferred him from their NYC office to their LA one, and we moved to California in 2005. Sometime in 2009 or 2010, my younger son, Nick, meets and becomes best friends with Zach Haskell (no relation to Dawn's family). Zach is studying to become a California firefighter. About 2 years ago, he is over for dinner and begins telling us that for his fire class, he had to research and write an essay on a fireman killed on 9-11. He goes on to tell us he is doing his report on 2 NYC firemen brothers....he picked them bc they share the same last name. He starts telling us all about Tommy and Timmy Haskell and all he learned about them. As he continued with his story, we all sat dumbstruck. He even told us about Blaze,Timmy's Dalmatian. Finally one of us spoke up, I don't even remember who, and we told Zach that we know their sister....we went to their memorial service.....Chris used to play with Blaze during religion class at her house. None of us could fathom the chances. I emailed Dawn to tell her the story. I wanted her to know her brothers' sacrifices were remembered by an 18 year old future fireman in Ca. Last summer she gave me her brothers' memorial Tshirt and a memorial patch to give to Zach. My husband, Walter, and I promised Zach then that the next time we went to NY we would take him and bring him to the 9-11 memorial. We did that this summer when we went home to visit our family. Unbeknown to us, Zach came prepared. In his backpack he had flags which he placed at each of their engraved names. We then went to Timmy's firehouse and told them the story. Zach was again prepared. He presented them with a shadow box he made honoring the Haskell brothers, as well as all the fireman that lost their lives that day. It included patches of his West Ranch HS fire academy post # 343, 9/11 patches, and pictures of his academy during a 9/11 memorial service they had. It was a beautiful and touching experience and one that I will never forget. I will forever be amazed by the connection my two worlds have, but most importantly, how far reaching the sacrifice of those two fireman, Tommy and Timmy Haskell, is. Their ultimate sacrifice and that of so many like them WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN"
