A couple photo's of the gobi

Had the gobi stealth now for a few months. Finally got the lights wired up over the weekend, and wanted to share a couple pictures! I went with 4 hella ff75 driving beams up front and 2 hella ff75 flood beams in the rear. Forgive the quality, taken with the good ol' iphone. Had to attach them as well - work blocks personal image hosting sites.

Here's the simple switch panel i made out of aluminum. Left switch is for the front 2 drivers side lamps, middle switch for the front 2 pass side lamps, and right is for the rears. I mounted it at the bottom right side of the knee bolster. In the picture it looks like it would get in the way of your leg. It doesn't though, i'd have to get in a pretty funky position before my leg bumped into it.

Looks great. I think I will end up at some point with switches in the knee bolster

Looks nice. I think you'll be happy with the Gobi. Mine has come in very useful. Not so much for any kind of offroad adventuring, but the mundane tasks of hauling stuff from Lowes, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, etc.

Thanks, it's a tight area, but i think i could squeeze one more switch in there if i had to without smashing my leg into it.

Thanks, it was pretty simple to make. I first made a template out of cardboard, then bent the sheet of aluminum in the vice. Wrap the end going into the vice with masking tape so it doesn't chew up the aluminum. I believe the holes required for the switches were 1/2" but i could be wrong. Start out small, and work your way up. That way it's much harder to get off centered. I cut it to size with a hacksaw and filed the edges.

Thanks! Yeah i just washed her up on my lunch and snapped one. EDIT- i found a few more in the archives on my pc. I would go for it, you won't regret it.

Thanks, i am very happy with it. I've used it 2 times thus far. Other than sitting up there to watch the sunset. I didn't pull the plug for quite some time because i fear wind noise, and didn't want to loose too many MPG's but so far neither has been an issue for me. It's knocked my mileage down maybe 1-1.5, haven't really done the math because it's been nothing to sweat over. Even with the Gobi this vehicle gets better mileage than any i've owned in the past (2003 zr2 blazer, 2007 crew cab colorado). I'm going to run the superchips flashpaq on tow mode after i fill up with 91 today and see if that changes anything, power and mileage. I've heard it helps with both.

Nice job on the switch panel. how bright are those lit up at night? they look like they would allow you to see them easily enough.

Hopefully this makes sense:

I wired the rack in halves. I ran 1 power wire going from the front 2 drivers side lamps down the drivers side A-piller, behind the windshield reveal molding. I also ran a seperate wire going to each rear light behind the reveal molding. I did the same for the passenger side. At the bottom of the rvl moldings i ran it under those hood vent/covers, for the passenger side, i zip tied the two wires to the brake line going across the backside of the engine bay going to the relays on the backside of the battery cover. For the wires going through the fire wall (switch power and relay to switch wires) I drilled a hole maybe 3/16"-1/4" right by the hood release cable. I didn't want to go this route, but couldn't see any other way to cleanly get it done. So from the relays, i zip tied them to the release cable, ran them through the hole i drilled, and re zip tied them to the hood release cable inside the vehicle. Then across the bottom of the knee bolster, drilled a couple holes in the bottom of that to zip tie them up behind the bolster and then to the switches. Can't see any wiring from inside unless you get down by the pedals and look up in there. For the switch grounds i used the bolt on the instrument panel reinforcement brace. It's right behind the temperature control knob, probably should have went directly to the body, but it works and the wires are hidden. Snapped a couple pictures.

Thanks Tim! Lol, took me even longer to get the wiring done! No worries. Seriously, anyone considering the Gobi go through tim. I called him countless times, and he always answered or called me back no matter the time or day. Even if it were for stupid questions like "what's with the rubber plugs in the underside of the rack" he was happy to answer with "that's how they pressure test it" and work with me.

The switches are bright, even during the day you can clearly see that they are lit up. I was going to order some different ones from otrattw but I'm happy i didn't because the hella ones work just fine.
