Acceleration Lag

I've noticed recently that on the road I get a bit of lag between when I hit the gas and the truck actually drops down a gear and goes. For example yesterday I was on the highway and was attempting to pass a car, when I pushed the accelerator (all the way) the engine didn't accelerate for around a second.

I'm wondering if they're is something I can do to get a more responsive engine, thanks for the help!!

I have that in my Alpha too. At a stop (in neutral) throttle response is immediate but whe n in drive or any selectable gear there is a lag which I dont have in the I5 btw, only the Alpha

Yes unfortunately we all have the same "lag" when in gear, of course there are things to improve it, like better intake, etc, but unfortunately it is hardly noticeable.

It is a part of the programming. You can get rid of it with a custom tune. I am about to do it with mine. I have the Predator Diablo tuner, and I will be having a custom tune done by DiabLew Tune. I am going to have the torque managment turned off, the traction control turned off, and the throttle delay turned off. Maybe it will drive like an old fashiond truck then!

Be sure to let us know how it feels afterwards, I know I'll be interested in knowing!!

Ive done a custom tune via pcmpfnc and that lag is still there. Not sure if they didnt understand what I meant or they couldnt get rid of it. Anyway, do let us know how you go on to solve it!

I don't know if a custom time will help.
My first thought when i read this was time for new spark plugs and air filter.

The lag went away on my 3.7 H3 after the pcmofnc tune. I did have an Airdoc intake, Magnaflow Catback and did the Alpha intake tube into the airbox. I think my present Alpha has more lag than the 3.5 or the 3.7 factory setup. Tuning the Alpha at their shop is in my near future.

The lag is one of the things I've seen commented on a lot in reviews of his tunes. They all say it drives like a throttle cable instead of drive by wire.

I've been emailing him today and will be starting all this in a couple weeks. Once it's underway I'll post up a dedicated thread on it.

Scarsman, I have the Evolution CTS tuner, would I ba able to do any of the things you mentioned with mine on my truck myself? Or is it, that even having a tuner, you have to send it out to get done at a shop? I would like to do the same... "I AMgoing to have the torque managment turned off, the traction control turned off, and the throttle delay turned off."

I don't know anything about that particular tuner, but the hand held tuners generally have limited function when it comes to adjusting all the different parameters. I have the Diablosport Predator. It has two canned tunes, 87 and 92 octane. I can tweak some of the parameters, like injector slope, timing, and shift points and speed. But I can't do anything with things like the throttle lag, traction control, etc. The only option I have for torque management is to have it on or off during up shifts. I can't change the fact that it pulls timing and fuel when you punch it off the line until the RPMs get up, then it let's the power come on.

What it does let me do is record a data log while driving of all the parameters, including the ones I can't see in the tuner, and then I email the log file to this guy. He has the full tuning software and can see and adjust all the parameters. Then he emails the new tune back and you load it and drive for awhile. The re-log and repeat. He'll keep tweaking and adjusting until everything is optimized for your specific truck with your mods. Then if you make any additional mods within a year he'll readjust for free. After a year it is $75 to update.

I thought I'd do my own update to this, I had my throttle body cleaned 3 days back. The front side of the throttle blade looked clean initially (had a bronze color), but when the throttle body was removed, the rear side was completely black.
Needless to say, alot of cleaner was sprayed and alot of brushing was done to the blades. After installation, throttle response is now almost immediate. Previously I had at least half a second lag if not more, now thats gone. However, my IDLE is running extremely weird. When I come to a stop, the idle drops very slowly to normal, as in it takes 10 seconds to do that (it drops from 900 rpm to 650). If I put the truck in neutral when the rpm is at 900, the truck revs up to 1800 rpms, while if I did that when its at 650, it goes up tp 950 rmps! Strange...
Ill be driving the truck for another 100 miles before I decide something got messed up.
I did clean my maf sensor by spraying it at the same time.

One simple thing to check is to make sure your air filter wasn't installed upside down in the air box.
