Hey guys. New to the forum and just started to mod my h3. Wondering if anyone has any advice on where to find black door handles , mirrors and grills. Haven't had any luck finding any. Thinking bout painting them. Anyone done that and how they turn out.

Gene, one of our site sponsors at GM PartsHouse has them. Check out his website. Painting the chrome can be difficult, but some have succeeded with various applications. Good luck to you!

Be sure to post in the new members section with a photo of your H3! Welcome to H4O!

Watch the For Sale section, sometimes they come up for sale but usually it is the chrome ones for sale. Gene carries them and sometimes you see them on eBay.

I posted the part numbers for the door handles in one of the WTB threads (can't seem to find the link with Tapatalk). Amanda (MustangGirl666) painted her chrome mirrors and door handles on her H3X. I'll see if she can post some info and pictures.

I would just buy the black door handles. They are not very expensive and better than painting them.

On the grill, some people have had success painting the grill, but the devil was in the details. Lots and lots of prep to make it look good and last. A lot of painted grills look good to start and then the weather and rock chips gets to them. You can buy a color matched grill, but that usually costs $350. Line-x is another good option, it is very durable and looks great on our rigs. It cost me $75 to get my grill line-xed.

Good luck.

welcome aboard, in terms of painting the grille the first go around I had bad results...repainted it again still bad results. Then I broke my grille off road and got a new one and took a better method. My friend sandblasted the grille (be very careful its plastic!) then prime and paint. I had much better results this go around. If I didnt have a friend to help sandblast it I probably would of went the line-x route, they even have color matching bedliner too (if your hummer isnt black)

what about the black? will it turn a grey color over time
my grill is the only thing on mine thats chrome and it drives me nuts.
I'd sandblast it myself and try painting it if I knew I could get another one if I messed it up. but then again my "craftsman" compressor blew up again and its not under warrenty any more:gaah:

I thought anything Craftsman has a lifetime warranty. I know the tools are! I have a friend who had a chop saw that was replaced and it was around 5 years old.

I thought so too but not any more. this compressor had a year warrenty and mine died at about 54 weeks. I argued with the manager of the sears store where I got it (which happened to be where my daughter worked) I told the guy that its not like the thing runs all the time and in total I had not used it more than maybe 4 or 5 hours. he agreed and said he would cover the service charge and that was it. $35 off.
well I needed it fixed and figured that was better than nothing. when they called and said it was back at the service center and to come pick it up. when I got there and tried to pay for it, the guy said there was no charge. somebody had missed the no charge on the service charge and took it as saying "no charge" so I say cool and take it home.... well it blew up again after about 20 minutes of sandblasting CRAP.... took it back to the service center and they shipped it back down to KC and put a new head on it. looks like it lasted another year.
come to find out that this particular model was notoriously bad about blowing up. if I had bought the next expensive model that they never break down and had nothing but positive revues

I had my handles and grille sprayed with line-x for 50 bucks. it faded a little over a year but I just recently took the handles and grille off and gave them both a quick spray with black enamel and they look good as new.

Even tho your going the line x route I'll write what I did for others to see

1. Sanded all handles and both mirrors
2. Used Adhesion Promoter (2 coats, let dry for 30 minutes)
3. Satin Black Kyrlon Fusion (3 coats, let dry for 1 hour)
4. Rust-Oleum Satin Clear Coat (2/3 coats, let dry for 30 minutes)

has held up great for 3 months so far Heat,Cold ect :)

My hood handles even have Duplicolor Bedliner on top if anyone is interested in that extra step, for a textured look for there mirror's and handles.
