H3T Calling all slantback owners! Latch problem!

Hello fellow slantback T guys,

I've got a problem that I've emailed Snugtop with, but I figured I'd ask if any owners have had the problem as well. When I close the lid, my passenger side latch is not catching properly. The driver's side is just fine. So, when I close the lid, it is slightly skewed which cannot be good for the fiberglass. Even if I press down firmly on the passenger side, it just sort of bounces back up. Very frustrating.

Please let me know if this has happened to anyone else, and I'll let you know what Snugtop tells me too.

PS: Since the truck came with the slantback, would this be covered under GM's warranty? Or how would that work?

I would think it would be coverd under the 50,000mile/5yr bumper to bumper warranty. Are you under 50,000?

Yes, I am.

Get in the truck bed and check as someone else shuts it. The slant has an exit release inside so no body can shut you in. The metal bar on each side it latches to sometimes gets slightly askew. I have had minor issues, nothing that prevented it from shutting.

No good. It didn't work. Still messed up. :huh:

See if one of the screws that hold the glass to the hinge are loose. Also check if the upper edge of the glass is not parallel with rest of the top.

I had this problem once and it turned out I had moved one of the tie downs on the bed rails just enough to hit one of the hinge arms.

Nothing yet...I'm going to call the dealer (I have a few issues) and I'll bring this up too.

I had to test the placement of the quick disconnect and fireextinguisher for the same issue. All worked out great in the end.

I took it to the local dealership today and they said they'd take care of it (along with a few other things). We'll see how it goes. I'll be sure to update.

Well, it's been almost two months, but they finally got me in and fixed the latch. There was something wrong with the resistance of the spring. One side somehow became much tighter and therefore pushed harder against the latch, which would not allow it to catch properly.

Glad to report it is fixed and the slantback is closing properly once more.

I don't know what I'd do without it! I keep a ton of stuff in the bed, so an open bed would never work for me.

Hell a slant back is a slant back, Idk if one came around at a good price I would take it in a heart beat, its not and NEED item but I'm shooting for the HMMWV looking and a slant back would help a lot.
