Check engine light and fuel cap light

Every time after I get gas my fuel cap and check engine light always comes on. I've taken it to autozone and they scanned it for me I forgot what the code was but it had something to do with the gas cap. So I bought a new gas cap and still nothing had changed. I've waited a few for the drive cycle but I had to remove the neg from the battery for it to go away. It's getting annoying. What's wrong how can I prevent this?

Where did you get the gas cap from? A lot of times the aftermarket ones don't seal right.

One main item I sell is gas caps. People have tried the aftermarkets then buy to OE. Might try that and see if it cures it since it keeps throwing the code for the gas cap

Yeah I totally agree!!! Stick with OEM!! Not only does the aftermarket cap look cheap vs the OEM H3 cap, but they're cheap and DO NOT work properly. Had that issue with my 05 Jeep Wrangler and I finally bought an OEM cap and the problem went away.

Try an OE gas cap just for ****s and giggles. Not much more then the aftermarket and return the one to autozone. If it is the same code, I'd bet it clears it up.

Original equipment. From the dealer
Ohh oem... I'll try to get one but I didn't have any issues with the cel and fuel cap lights before I got stuck. My h3 had gotten stuck and I had to leave it there overnight in the cold and all the mud and water froze around it. Do you think that could've caused it
