I would still vouch for the Snap-On version, almost indestructible, and an unbeatable guarantee, with most dealers taking in the old versions for an upgrade.

No argument Span-on is great but it costs 2x more than my Dewalt and the Dewalt is good enough for my limited use.

Bosch. Go to your favorite Chinese-only hardware store and get the "combo pack"...drill, impact, charger, three batteries, and a sexy matching tool bag....

I have the snap on 1/2 impact. Its a great tool to have. I suggest going with Lithium-Ion batteries on any new cordless tool purchase. I have had several nicad batteries that just don't last long. Nothing is worse then a battery that is dead any time you leave it off the charger.

On my wishlist is a Craftsman 19.2v impact wrench. If I had to start over I'd go with a different brand, but Craftsman is "good enough" and I was given a big combo pack years ago that I've expanded on. I'd hate to have to start over from scratch, so I just stick with what I have.

As a mechanic I have to say snap-on. I have the small 3/8 drive which doesn't have much break away torque but its perfect for small jobs
came with a case impact and nut driver with 2 batteries and charger for like $300.00. I also have the 1/2 drive one also which is amazing. I don't use my air impact much any more since I bought them. Also look into cornwell, matco, and Ingersoll rand.

I have 2. I have one (1/2" drive) I bought from Costco 5 or 6 years ago (12v), and while it doesn't hold the greatest charge, it still works and hits hardest on bolts. In the day and time where it's cheaper to just buy a whole new set up; I'll replace the batteries on it because it's that good.
I also have a Makita (iirc 18v) (3/8" drive) that I just got last year. I like the makita because it's light, robust, cheap (got it as part of a kit), and reliable. When I bought it, I looked at Milwaukie, and Dewalt as well - I felt they were all pretty much the same, so it came down to price. Of course, it would bear well to note that I was looking for a cordless sawzall (that was the impetus of the purchase) so the cordless impact was a nice addition, but it wasn't the reason for the purchase.

Got to play with my new Milwaukee 2763-22 impact this weekend and I'm impressed. Reloader's Dewalt has done everything we've needed it to and we figured out the Milwaukee is even stronger. When using the torque stick on the wheels the Milwaukee fights back much harder, suggesting it's putting out more power.

One con: there's 2 settings on the unit - low power and high power. The low power is supposed to be 100 ft/lbs but it's closer to 40-60. On low the speed is slow and single speed, vs. variable speed on the high power setting.
