The following are letters I wrote to the BLM and President Obama in regards to Jeep Safari and the ORV problem that is happening here:
To the BLM:
“Here are a few pictures of this year’s Jeep Safari destruction by off-road vehicle enthusiasts. The inhabitants of Moab and the land are being terrorized by the Jeep Safari event and by this user group. Something needs to be done.
“Instead of being penalized, they are being granted more and more areas, more and more trails. Our BLM is outnumbered; we have three BLM rangers for millions of acres.
“The destruction is rampant. Something has to be done.
“Below is a copy of the letter I wrote to President Obama and a link to a photo album I created. I have sent the album link to our local BLM office, along with the state office.
“We need help, it is a war on this landscape and the land is losing. The destruction is rampant and the recovery slow. Please do something about this. We have two national parks here, a state park and so much public land. We can’t afford to be continually trampled upon. Our economy relies on protecting this landscape. Our biggest user groups are hikers and sight-seers, not off-roaders, and yet they do the most damage and get the most concessions. Please do something.”
And to President Obama:
“Moab needs help. Every year during Easter week we are terrorized by over 10,000 off-road vehicle enthusiasts. Total mayhem descends upon us.
“Many citizens leave town; most hole up in their homes. The air turns to smog from dust and thousands of vehicle exhausts spewing fumes. The noise from these vehicles howls for days. “These users come throughout our tourist season and do major damage to this precious landscape.
“The local BLM law enforcement is outnumbered and lacking because of funding. We have three BLM rangers for millions of acres. Jeep Safari needs to end and we need help protecting this special place. Will you please help us?
“Here is a link of some of the recent damage from the 2012 Jeep Safari: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.21772978166771847538.
